Strap on harness

The Harness Formerly Known As

I've rated this a 4 star product seeing as it does excel in nearly every area - but were half stars allowed, this would be a 3.5 item in my book. Unfortunately, the ASLAN Prince lets me down in a critical area when it comes to my harness rating rubric: quality, sturdy construction. As a dedicated ASLAN fan, I'm far from disenchanted altogether, but this particular piece has broken my heart just a little bit.

extremely useful review
When it comes to strap-on play, devoted enthusiasts know that ASLAN is one of the true heavyweights of quality harness production. In addition to make beautiful, elegant pieces in a variety of rich colors and sexy, expressive designs, they are well known for making durable harnesses with a lifetime guarantee that you'll probably never need. I've owned multiple products from this company and only one has ever come to see any real visible wear, and probably more due to my lack of maintenance know-how at the time.

For all of these reasons, the Prince is a bit perturbing to me as an ASLAN fan that frequently crosses over into the territory of proselytizing its wears. This is my very first 100% vinyl harness, but I was prompted to experiment with this medium after trying another ASLAN vegan piece and having such a great experience. Sadly, while the Prince is still a better harness than most others you'll find in other company's catalogs, it falls short of the quality I've come to expect from ASLAN.

I'll start with the good news, so as to prepare my fellow ASLAN evangelicals for the bad.

I was afraid that I would hate a fully vinyl harness because when I hear the phrase, all I can think of is the seats of my mother's antique station wagon. Hot summers driving to church in itchy dresses, my mother yelling at me to stop fighting with my sister because I was messing up my hair, and the awful feeling of peeling my legs and butt off the vinyl backseat when the car stopped. Surprisingly, this harness is not even remotely so awful. It can become a little sticky with sweat and heat, but all of its strappy goodness prevents any uncomfortable peeling scenarios at the end of your pegging session. In terms of the comfort of this material, it exceeded my expectations. I was also somewhat concerned that the glitter in the material would be scratchy (some kind of paint on the surface) but I was relieved here as well. The glitter is embedded into the material itself, so I encountered no real problems regarding comfort during wear.

One thing I did notice about this material is that it is a bit squeaky. It's likely due to the highly glossed finish of the vinyl, but during thrusting I do get some slight squeaking noises when the metal O-rings in the front move about against the straps. It kind of reminds me of the sound of balloons being rubbed together. Certainly not a big deal, barely noticeable, but God forbid you have a balloon phobia then you may want to reconsider your material options!

As with many ASLAN harnesses, the Prince has a 42" maximum hip measurement and a 26" minimum hip measurement. I am a pretty slim gal and I wear mine with each hip buckle fastened about halfway to its maximum tightness. This is a "low-rise" style that, depending on your build, you can wear higher up around your waist or lower down on your hips. I tend to pull mine up a little to sit just over my hip bones, just because I hate that about-to-fall-down feeling created by low-rise styles. If you have narrow hips, or if there is not much difference between the measurement of your waist and your hips, you'll have no choice but to wear these lower on your hips. It's something to keep in mind if you dislike this style. Overall, as with any harness, it's a good idea to take a few measurements at various points between your waist and the widest point of your hips to make sure you'll be comfortable in this harness. It is, unfortunately, probably not a great option for more voluptuous guys and gals, but there are great, affordable plus-sized harness options here at Eden!

The leg straps on this item can also be adjusted via metal buckles to fit your body type. In spite of my best efforts with a seamstress' measureing tape, it was difficult for me to get an accurate measurement on this; the circumference is not as neat a loop as the waist. I could not find a measurement for the leg holes on the ASLAN website, but for what it's worth, as a slim girl I also kept this locked in at about half the possible tightness available. I do not think this would be a great fit for those with more booty or thickness to their thighs, unfortunately.
Experience
Finally, on the good news front, the Prince harness comes fitted with a black rubber O-ring that is 1.75" in diameter - a size that will suit most small to medium sized dildos and prostheses. Rubber is a porous material, so if you plan on strapping on with multiple partners, you will want to keep the risk of your rubber O-ring harboring bacteria in mind. It may be a good idea to periodically change rings just to keep things fresh and safe. If you need a larger or smaller ring, the two metal snaps that lock in the included ring easily open, allowing you to swap on whatever size you desire. The vinyl is EXTREMELY easily to clean; simply wipe down with a damp cloth and then wipe dry with a towel. Store in a cool, dry place as vinyl can be warped by extreme heat (no leaving it in a hot car!)

So why, after all that good stuff and the overwhelming, undeniable cuteness of this purple, pop musician-themed harness, do I rate this only 4/5 stars (3.5 if I were able)? Friends, unfortunately, there is a terrible oversight in construction here. Both the waist and leg straps - as seen in the accompanying video - have massive slits down their entire length. The vinyl appears to be folded under until its opposing seams meet, and then sewn along the edges and glued underneath. Not an inherently problematic construction, right? Well, no, but unfortunately here the execution falls short.

The stitching is secure enough that ideally, if you take good care of your Prince harness, it should never come apart entirely and become wholly unusable. However, the adhesive the keeps the remaining vinyl slack stuck to itself is, well, less than tenacious. A slight bit of tugging easily pulls it apart, and this creates - if nothing else - a very unattractive harness. At worst it would eventually put too much stress on the stitching and this too would become lose. Only time could say if this would be the case, but I do see it as a distinct possibility.

I plan to super glue my straps shut and report back in my follow up on that, but currently I've only played with this harness three times for fear of injuring it too badly. Hopefully a little DIY love is all this beautiful, comfortable but slightly misguided piece needs in order to be on par with my other ASLAN gear!
