I found the Silk medium to be perfect for anal, but not so much for vaginal play. This toy is not in the least bit firm, and the base is big yet flexible. This is a seam free dildo, and the pink color is feminine and cute. The toy does like to pop out, so a firm grip on the base at all times may be required. Since I bought this for anal purposes, I like for the most part. Who knows? Maybe I will try the Silk large next.
Silk medium is the middle child of the Silk family. There is a Silk small and a Silk large. All are available in pink, purple, or a black color. The Silk family is perfect for those who are just starting out or for those who are looking for that next step up. All of them have a flared base which makes anal play possible and safe. It also makes this dildo harness compatible. I do not own a harness, so unfortunately I cannot tell you how it performs in one.
Silk medium is a dildo that is excellent for vaginal or anal play. If you have a shallow vaginal canal, the somewhat small length may be perfect for you. The tip is rounded and plush, so if it does hit your cervix it should not hurt as much as a glass dildo would. I would still take time to learn what is comfortable. The plush material makes this great for double penetration.
Tantus makes the Silk medium with hypo-allergenic silicone. This material is non porous which is just a fancy way of saying that it does not harbor bacteria. If you are prone to infections, silicone is a great material to use. This dildo came with no smells or tastes. It can be sanitized by boiling or bleaching. There is a little drag, but nothing a little lube can't fix. Silicone should only be used with water based lubricants. If you want to chance it with a silicone lube, I suggest doing a patch test on the base first. Just like most silicone toys, this one is a huge lint and hair magnet.
Silk medium is very smooth and soft. The only texture on this dildo is the Tantus logo on the base. Silk is very flexible and squishy. This will not give the firm pressure some need for G-spot or P-spot stimulation. The flexibility can be a problem when inserting, especially anally. Since the material is very forgiving, it feels smaller than it looks. I think the medium would be okay even for beginners. I absolutely love how smooth this dildo feels anally. I love larger toys for vaginal use, and I usually need firmer toys for my G-spot so I prefer this toy anally.
When held by the base, Silk flops up and down. The shaft is easily bent from all angles. The base is made out of the same plush material, so it is easy to bend. I find that the base is not too thick, but it is a little too big length wise. If it was a little bit smaller, it would sit just right between my cheeks.
I got this toy in the pink color. It is a very light pink with glittery swirls. It also has a pearlescent look to it.
The design of the Silk is very good, but there are a few flaws for me.
The tip is pretty blunt and plush, which makes insertion either vaginally or anally difficult. The shaft is also floppy and flexible, so it does not stand up when pressure is applied. When inserting the tip, the shaft easily bends in half. I found it easier to hold it mid-shaft while inserting. Once the tip is in, it was smooth sailing. The base is quite large in my opinion. It does provide a good handle for thrusting, but slippery lubed up hands might find it difficult to grasp the bottom of the shiny base. The entire toy came to me seam free. The only texture is the Tantus logo which is on one side of the base. The smooth and silky shaft feels amazing when thrusting slowly.
The Silk lacks the curve and firm shaft I need for my G-spot. This toy was quite lackluster when I used it vaginally. It was perfect for anal though once I got it in!
This toy would be great for beginners and intermediate users, but advanced users might find this toy too small and boring. While it does not look phallic in nature, it is obviously something used for sexual purposes. As you can see, my Silk medium measurements differ from those on the product page.
Measurements:
Total Length-5 1/4"
Insertable Length-5"
Diameter-1 1/4"
Length of base-2 1/2"
Width of base-1/4"
As hard as I tried, I could not orgasm from this when using it vaginally. It is simply not thick or curved enough. It also is not even close to how firm I need it to be for it to stimulate my G-spot. I have a shallow G-spot, and unfortunately the slight curve plus the floppy shaft did not do it for me.
Anally, however, is a whole other story. The blunt, plush head plus the floppy shaft makes for an awkward difficult insertion. Once I got past that part, I was in heaven. The smooth shaft glided in effortlessly.
My husband and I used this toy for double penetration. We found that toys with texture or a lot of firmness tended to lead to an uncomfortable situation for both of us. The Silk was bought for its' smooth shaft and the flexibility of the material, which is what I wanted in my next anal dildo. The Silk performed extremely well. With this toy in my bum and my husband in my vagina, we both had a wonderful double penetration experience. The only thing that caused us issues was the overly large base. I was on top, and the base kept hitting his testicles in a painful way. Doggie style was the way to go. Because there isn't a neck, I had to constantly hold the base or else the Silk would pop out. Thanks to the ultra smooth shaft and large base, I could thrust this toy without causing either one of us discomfort.
The pictures below are comparing the Silk medium to the Swirled blue dildo by Don Wands and a 16.9oz bottle of water.
Silk medium is super easy to clean and store.
Before use, I would wash it off with warm water because silicone is known to be a lint and hair magnet.
After use, you have multiple choices for cleaning. Warm water and antibacterial soap, toy cleaner, boiling it for 3-5 minutes, wiping down with a 10% bleach solution, or putting it in the top rack of your dishwasher with no soap are the top options most people prefer.
The original packaging or a Ziploc bag is what I suggest the Silk be stored in.
Always be sure to use water based lube, and always be sure to use as much as you need.
Even though silicone is non porous, be sure to properly clean before switching between anal and vaginal use. Also if sharing with a partner, be sure to use a condom.
The Silk medium came in the typical see through plastic box. The toy is held in a plastic tray inside of the box. Seeing as the toy is completely visible, I would say that the packaging is not at all discreet. There is some care/cleaning information and some company information about Tantus on the box. I used the box for storage until the plastic top broke off. Now my Silk rests in a Ziploc bag.
Follow-up commentaryI don't like it anymore5 months after original review
I still love the idea of this toy, but it is a little too boring for me. I use it more for warm up anal play, but it doesn't stay in as well as I would like during double penetration play. I love Tantus, but I think I would have liked the silk large better.
