My Little Blue Angel

The Perk is an average-sized dildo with above-average functionality. It's easy to wield, both solo and strapped on for a partner. It stimulates my G-spot effortlessly and without any discomfort. It won't satisfy size queens, but I love mine!

Use

The Perk is an 100% silicone dildo made by Canadian company Happy Valley. It has a flared base, so it can be used in a harness, and for vaginal as well as anal play. It has a slight curve to it, for those who like to stimulate their G-spot or prostate.

The silicone is firm enough that the Perk stands up sturdily when used in a harness, even while thrusting quickly, making it a great choice for pegging or girl-on-girl strap-on sex.

On the other hand, the firmness of the silicone might annoy women who have a sensitive cervix, so if you do, please be careful while thrusting.

Material / Texture

I've had problems with Happy Valley toys in the past, especially the Joe Rock butt plug, due to the firmness of their silicone formulation. I guess my butt prefers a squishier formula. However, this firmness is actually a good thing for vaginal use, because it allows for more intense G-spot rubbing.

The Perk is squishy enough that you can bend it and flop it around a little, but it's certainly not going to sag when you wear it in a harness, and you can definitely feel its delicious firmness during use. It's firmer than a flesh-and-blood penis, for sure.

With a larger toy, this firmness might make the toy difficult to insert for people who are new to penetration, but the toy is small enough that this isn't an issue.

Happy Valley silicone has some drag, as does all silicone, but not nearly as much as Fun Factory or Lelo silicone, for example. I use lube with my Perk, but when I'm already very wet and turned on, I don't really need to.

The toy is 100% silicone so it's totally body-safe and sterilizable. It has no detectable scent or taste.

Design / Shape / Size

Happy Valley makes another dildo, the Hottie, which has similar dimensions but has a more pronounced "dip" where the coronal ridge would be on a real penis. I think of the Perk as the "uncircumcised" version of the Hottie, because it looks like a penis sheathed in a foreskin. The coronal ridge is smoothed out, but still prominent. For this reason, I think this dildo would be a great choice for someone who likes G-spot stimulation but not texture/ridges.

The Perk is smaller than the average dildo, but slightly larger than the average human penis, boasting 6" of insertable length and a 1 1/2" diameter, according to the product page. I actually think the girth is probably closer to 1 1/3", as 1 1/2" is usually my upper limit but the Perk doesn't feel like a stretch at all to me.

So yes, it's on the smaller side and won't please a size queen by any means. But this is actually one of the things I like best about this dildo. I don't ever need to warm up to it, because it's small enough to be comfortable no matter what stage of arousal I'm at. Occasionally I'll crave something a bit girthier when I get closer to orgasm, but not always.

The bump near the head of the dildo feels wonderful on my G-spot, even immediately upon insertion. The curve isn't very significant and the material has some squish, so this isn't the same kind of intense G-spot stimulation you'll get from something made of steel, glass, or wood, but I find it very enjoyable nonetheless. It's a good choice for sessions when I want a little G-spot lovin' but am not in the mood for that sometimes uncomfortable "need to pee" sensation that comes with firm, focused G-spot attention.

I haven't tried this toy anally (I think it would be a bit too big for my somewhat virginal butt), but it's small enough that it should be okay for intermediate anal players or even ambitious beginners. The tip is slightly tapered for easier insertion. Just make sure to use a lot of water-based lube, of course!

Performance

I love this dildo. In many ways, it's practically perfect.

I love that it has a round, flared base. This makes it so easy to hold onto, even for long periods of time, and to thrust quickly.

I love that the top part of the shaft (below the head) is narrower and it widens toward the bottom. This makes insertion so comfortable and easy, sometimes even without lube.

I love the G-spot bump. It's alarmingly good at locating and stimulating my spot. The stimulation isn't quite intense enough to give me a blended orgasm, but it certainly makes my clitoral orgasms more enjoyable.

I'll also have no hesitation about recommending this toy to my lesbian friends. It works great in a harness, and it also walks that line between "creepily realistic" and "absurdly abstract." I think it would appeal to a lot of women who want to wield a strap-on dildo but don't want to feel like they actually have a flesh-and-blood penis.

The Perk has a spot for a bullet vibrator in its base. I suggest lubing the bullet before you insert it, because it's really hard to remove otherwise (I'm pretty sure mine is stuck forever now). The toy conducts vibration moderately well, and the hole is deep enough that the dildo can stand up on its own even when the bullet is inside it. I don't really like internal vibrations, but if you do, this is a nice feature to have.

Care and Maintenance

Silicone is super easy to take care of. Wash it with soap and water or wipe it down with an antibacterial wipe between uses. Sterilize it by boiling it for a few minutes, running it through the dishwasher without soap, or giving it a bath in a 10% bleach solution. Easy peasy!

If you use this toy anally, you might find that it holds onto "butt smell." Some reviewers I know have had success removing smells from toys with baking soda or diluted hydrogen peroxide.

Like all silicone toys, the Perk is a bit of a lint magnet, though not nearly as bad as some of my other toys (e.g. anything by Tantus). I store mine in a small plastic bag to keep the dirt and debris away from it when not in use.

Don't use silicone-based lubes with silicone toys. I've been using my Perk with Sliquid Sassy Booty and it's a great combination!

Packaging

Happy Valley toys come packaged in a plastic bag with a stapled-on cardboard label. I really appreciate how minimal this packaging is, because it's much less wasteful than, say, the packaging used by Tantus.

It's not necessarily the classiest-looking packaging in the world, though, so you may want to transfer it to a different bag or box if you plan on giving it to someone as a gift.

It's also totally see-through, and thus definitely not discreet at all.

You can use the accompanying plastic bag for storage if you want. It seems unlikely to deteriorate.

The toy doesn't come with instructions, but I don't see how you'd really need them. Just lube it up and insert!

Personal comments

Shortly after I received my Perk in the mail, my friend asked me to come with her to a sex shop to pick out a dildo for her new girlfriend to strap on and use on her. All on her own, without my input, she spotted the Perk and decided that it was the one she wanted. She liked that it's not hyper-realistic looking, but it's still functional for G-spot action, and there's no doubt that it's great for harness play. Plus it comes in so many cute colors!

The Perk has become one of my go-to dildos for quick, casual masturbation sessions, because it doesn't require warm-up and it feels great. I don't know if there's anything I would change about it.
Follow-up commentary
The Perk is still a wonderful go-to dildo of mine. In some ways, it's similar to another one of my favorite dildos, the VixSkin Mustang - they have a similar coronal ridge and curved shaft, but the Perk is firmer, so it's great when my G-spot wants a bit more pressure.

Also, I love that the Perk's size is a little bit below-average for a dildo, as I'm not a size queen at all and sometimes it feels like there's a dearth of good smaller dildos.

Are you sure about the diameter discrepancy? I'm looking for a 1 1/2" diameter (shaft and head) to work up to a bigger dildo. I'm interested in the Perk, but if it's not the right width I can wait a bit.
