Holds 'Em Tight
I think in the end the packing strap is kind of necessary for the Mr. Right. I mean, you can shove him in a pair of tight fitting briefs, but it's just damn convenient when you want to wear a pair of boxers. The strap is really comfortable and definitely grips that dick, it just slides a bit from side-to-side. While it's pretty effective, it wears down really quickly, so I'm not sure if the price is right. All things considered, I think it is, just for the sake of convenience.

Pros
It definitely holds the Mr. Right in place, it's very comfortable to wear.
Cons
It shifts around a lot, the spandex band wears down pretty quick.
The Mr. Right packing strap only works with the Mr. Right. The balls of any other packy are way too small for it, making it very specialized. Despite this, it has a moderately fair price point and because of its specialization, it performs almost perfectly.
Essentially, the packing strap is a super simple, stripped down strap. It has a wide, comfortable band and relies on mostly gravity to hold your dick in place. When in your pants, the balls of Mr. Right don't touch you--there's a bit of soft garment-leather.
Because the strap doesn't fit like a jock-strap, it has less spandex that might cut into you. However, because it relies heavily on gravity to hold your dick in place, it's apt to shift around if you're wearing loose pants. I probably should have bought a size down because I can hardly sleep in my strap (though it is comfortable enough to do so) without it shifting around.
The strap is easy enough to care for. You shouldn't have to do much to the leather, but if you do clean it, simply wipe it down with a bit of soapy water (just don't heavily saturate it). If the leather begins to crack or anything, I suppose you could use a bit of neatsfoot oil on it--though I doubt your harness will hold up that long.
Which is where I have to come to this point: the spandex just doesn't hold up. Within the first week of using the harness, it had begun to fray a bit. To be honest , the leather will likely outlast the band it’s mounted on. Though I can say that, in all this time and almost constantly wearing it, it has never lost any of its elasticity.
While I do like the garment leather backing, because it's very soft and comfortable, it does get sweaty. Though I do have to say, it probably would be a lot more sweaty if I just shoved my Mr. Right down there without it. It surely would be a lot more sticky.
There are some definite pros and cons to the strap. Pros: it's fucking comfortable, the leather ball-backing is super soft and the elastic band isn't like cheap underwear. Cons: the shit shifts around a lot, it's a bit pricey considering it's already showing signs of wear, and I'd like to be able to wash it.

Experience
I actually am really fond of this packing strap, even if I bitch a lot about it. As I've said, it's quite comfortable. I often forget I'm wearing it. It really does hold everything snug against you, so long as you get the right size. The ultimate test was jumping on a trampoline with it. While the band rode up a bit, the actual dick never fell out of the pouch. I think that's pretty impressive!
The strap also helps when I'm in a hurry and can't bother to make my dick lay proper in my pants, so it's a definite time saver. I actually can't imagine having a Mr. Right without the strap, just out of pure convenience.
Also, some advice: I ordered just at my hip size. I'm considering now that I should have ordered a size down. You might take that in consideration, depending on your body type.
If you're binding, beware with a long binder. The strap can really cut into you if you're not careful with your layering. I wear an Underworks extreme long binder and the pressure of that plus the waistband of well-fitting low-slung pants can cause some pain.

Follow-up commentary
5 months after original review
I still really, really like this strap, however I'm finding that it's almost better sometimes to just stick the Mr. Right right down my pants and go. Now that I've gotten through some hotter weather, I realize that the strap can rub and irritate my hips. It's still very useful if I'm wearing sporty shorts, though.
