Flare's Big Brother

The Skyn is the big brother to the Flare, and is just about perfect. The only real flaws that it has are that it doesn't target the G-spot (not always a big deal), it holds on to lint like a Swiffer Sweeper (kind of a big deal), and it can hold on to scents (potentially a big deal). If these aren't dealbreakers for you, then you should definitely add the Skyn to your collection.

What is it and what can I use it for?

This is a dildo from Sportsheets. It's got a flared base so you can use it pretty much wherever and however you want. It's probably best suited for vaginal play, but it's anal friendly and can be worn in a harness easily.

Oh neat! What's the packaging look like?

The packaging is a large clamshell type deal. It holds the Skyn inside a large window, and while not discreet at all isn't really tacky either. The front tells you what model you have, and the back gives you some more information about it. It would work well for storage, but so would a toy pouch.

Cool beans. Can you tell me more about the dildo itself? What's it made out of?

The Skyn is made of silicone. Like it's smaller brother, the Flare, that silicone also holds onto lint and scents. The scents can be pleasant, or not pleasant, depending on what you've been doing, but I've found that a good thorough washing and leaving it to air out for a few days seems to help a bit. The Skyn doesn't feel as plush as the Flare does, but it does still have a little bit of give to it if you're squeezing it with your hands. The material does have some drag so I would definitely use lube with it, and it also features a gorgeous purple marbled design. Marbled might not be the right word. It looks like a pool of metallic purple paint, and is gorgeous.

Ooh, that does sound pretty. What's it shaped like, and how big is it?

The packaging and the product page seem to have a slight disagreement as to just how big it is. When I get out my tape measure to check for myself, it seems to be closer to what the packaging lists standing just under 6" tall. Just about 5 1/2" of that is insertable though, with the rest being the gently sloping base. It does have a phallic shape and features a head that is different from the shaft, but I wouldn't call it realistic. Around the widest part of the head ridge is just over 4 1/2" around and the shaft is just under 4 1/2" around. It's a good vaginal toy for those who don't like a lot of girth, and a good anal toy for those who know they like anal play.

Awesome. How well does it work?

It's going to be best for those who like broader G-spot stimulation rather than a pinpoint targeting, as the broad head provides stimulation more along the lines of "hello, I am large and in charge and there's no way I can miss your G-spot." I found it enjoyable, but didn't feel like it really targeted anything. That being said, I didn't really feel as though it ignored my G-spot either. Anally, my husband enjoyed it but doesn't choose it very often as it takes a bit for him to work up to. It performs well in a harness and in every situation we've used it in.

Ooh that does sound like a handy piece to have around. How should I clean it, and what kinds of lube should I use with it?

I would stick with a water based lube unless you've already spot tested it to see how your favorite silicone reacts to it. To clean it, you can wash it in the sink with warm soapy water, use a toy spray or wipe (if you're using it anally, don't just use a spray or a wipe), or you can put it in the dishwasher, boil it for 10 minutes, or bleach it with a 10% bleach solution. I would definitely store it somewhere that it can't pick up a bunch of lint, but you can store it wherever you feel comfortable with it.

Got any pictures?

Yep! Unfortunately they make it look a lot more blue than it really is. I have no idea how to really get the color to show, but I've got a full shot and a closeup of the head to try and show you how much lint it picks up. This was just for being out to write the review.

Experience
This is a fantastic dildo in its own right. If you really love the shape of the Flare but want something a little girthier, this is the perfect solution. I picked it up because my husband really likes the Flare, but sometimes wants something a bit bigger. We've both gotten enjoyment from this dildo, although I tend to use it more than he does. (We put condoms on it when we use it for anal play)

Aside from the lint factor and the lack of targeted G-spotting, I really can't find anything wrong with this dildo. For some, those are going to be a deal breaker. For me, I hate that it gathers so much lint but I don't mind the lack of targeting on my G-spot.
