Now, I never claim to speak for anyone but myself but in most cases, unless you have latex or more specific condom fetish, people tend to agree that sex feels better without a condom. This leads many to search for the brass ring of safe sex, the pinnacle of penile protection, if you will: a condom that really feels like there’s no condom there at all.

I don’t know who the Trojan Ultra Ribbed Ectasy condoms were made for and who thinks they feel good but it’s not me and it’s not my partner. I actually grabbed these last Christmas because they were on sale at 50% and I figured they would make a funny sorta last minute gift/stocking stuffer for my partner. There was a lot of hype surrounding them since they were newer at the time and I thought it’d be interesting to try them out. I assumed that at worst, they would just be another run of the mill condom.

These are a long way off from being your average run of the mill condom, they’re so so so so so much worse! The size was really wacky. My partner is about 6 ½ inches with decent girth. Not huge but certainly not minuscule and we’ve never had a problem with any other standard condom fitting him. These seemed kinda on the huge side and slid right off. We actually checked the package again to make sure I hadn’t accidentally grabbed a large size box. They were supposedly the standard size.

Aside from the weirdness of the sizing, the texture was quite unpleasant. For one thing, to my fingers, the latex felt really thick and synthetic. It felt more like some sort of rubber glove than the usual soft, skin-like texture of a condom. The ribbing felt weird to my fingers, and during penetration it wasn’t terribly pleasant either. The lube was nothing to write home about, fairly standard from what I noticed.
We did attempt penetration with this condom despite it being ill-fitting to see if we were missing what everyone else was talking about but it slipped off my partner pretty easily and he said it really killed sensation for him and felt too thick. To add one final insult to injury, it ripped while he was inside me. We ended up giving up and switching to whatever we had in the house. I believe we ended up tossing the full box in the trash.
I need to add a WARNING here: My partner has had a vasectomy and we are both clean so when we use condoms it is often because it makes clean up easier. For anyone using a condom for STD or pregnancy prevention NEVER use an ill fitting condom! An ill fitting condom of any kind will not provide the intended protection.

So all in all, for us, this condom failed on every front. It didn’t feel good, it didn’t fit right, and it tore before we ever got to anything even approaching rough sex.
I will say that in general, I like Trojan brand condoms so this seems like a rare misstep for the company. Maybe others will like it better than I did but my partner and I absolutely hated this condom and I can’t see ever buying it again. I would never recommend it to a friend.
