Though not much use by themselves, pair with wrist or ankle cuffs these tethers become a very useful bondage tool. They are strong enough to hold up to most play just short of suspension. I look forward to finding as many different possible uses for them as I can.
The pair of Sportsheets tethers are a tool to help you and your partner enjoy a bit of restraint play. The design of the tethers allow them to be used in a wide variety of ways. They can be use alone, but the most effective method of is in combination with a set of cuffs (either wrist cuffs or ankle cuffs). It may also be attached to a collar and be used as a lead to direct your submissive partner or slave.
Since these tethers are both strong and easy to use they can be enjoyed by beginners as well as more advanced bondage users. Though the rings and swivel clips are not strong enough to be suited for suspension or extremely hard pulling.
The tethers are made up of a length of nylon with a split key chain ring and swiveling clips on both ends. These tethers can reach a total of 48" and can be shortened to only 8" between clasps tips. Nylon is a very sturdy material and will stand up to repeated use and strong pulling. The nylon material is a little rough and tended to chafe where it rubbed against skin.
The one major worry I had when I received these straps was the plastic buckle used for adjusting the strap. I feared it would not be able to hold the straps in place when pulled on with much force. Thankfully it appears as though it is sturdy enough to hold fairly well.
The rings are not very heavy duty, but were strong enough that they did not warp or bend when I pulled on them. The quick clips are a little on the small side, it was a bit troublesome just to clip it onto the nylon strap they were attached to. Though the nylon itself would be strong enough for most to use in suspension play, the rings and clips most definitely are not.
Though it worked well with my bed frame I could see some people having trouble with some different bed frame types. The straps are not long enough to stretch across under a full sized mattress unless inked together. For this reason I am purchasing another pair. When shortened to its lowest setting I was able to link the cuffs together into a handcuff set-up with enough strap left over to act as a leash. The design of the tethers allow for a wide range of uses.
It would also be possible to use these tethers as a restraint system itself. Though it would be rather uncomfortable, but some of you may be into that aspect.
As a random side application, I recently used these tethers to secure my Christmas tree to the roof of my car. Though it seemed to work just fine keeping the tree on top of the car all the way home, I would not suggest tying a person to the roof of a car.
These tethers are machine washable, but should be washed with other dark colors in cool water in case of bleeding. You may want to also remove the metal pieces before washing. Storage is very simple. They could easily be kept in a sock drawer or hanging in the closet or in a nightstand drawer. I keep mine attached to my bed and tucked under the mattress to keep them out of sight. Keeping them this way makes it easier to use on the spur of the moment.
The tethers came packaged in a clear clamshell style box with a paper insert. The casing is big and bulky so I would not suggest using it as storage. The packaging is also not very discreet with a cuffed and tethered half naked couple on the front, whereas the tethers themselves could easily be passed off as a nonsexual item.
No instructions were included though the picture on the front gives a clue as to how the Sportsheet tethers can be used. It also states that it can be fastened around anything from bedpost to chair legs.
Follow-up commentaryI still like it2 months after original review
Though I wish they were longer, they have withstood many uses and will be used many times more. These tethers have worked great in pairing with my cuffs.
