The Aslan Leather ball gag is a great quality addition to any individual's BDSM gear collection. It is great for both the beginner and more advanced. The quick release snaps are a helpful safety feature to give you that peace of mind if you are new to ball gags and also make taking the ball off for cleaning easier. The ball is also interchangeable, so you can swap it out with another if you are planning to share the gag or need a different size. It also fits a great variety of sizes and is aesthetically pleasing to look at.

This ball gag provides a whole new level of sensory deprivation to BDSM play. This can be used by couples or by yourself. Just make sure to take the proper precautions when using this in solo play as drool can collect and cause you to choke if you are not careful. This is another reason the quick release snaps are a great addition and make this ball gag safer than some others.

This product is made out of leather and silicone, aside from the metal hardware, with an EF safety rating of 7. The metal hardware is nickel plated. The care instructions suggest putting a thin coat of nail polish remover on to prevent rusting. I'm not sure if this would help those with metal/nickle allergies by preventing direct contact of the metal to the skin (if someone knows, please comment and I can add it into my follow up review).


The ball measures 1.75" in diameter. I have a fairly small to average size mouth (although my brother might argue differently) and this fit me perfectly. If you get this ball gag and find that it doesn't fit you, you can always take the ball off and replace it with one that better accommodates you. The ball has a nice amount of give to it so you can bite down on it without damaging or indenting the ball and you will not injure your teeth.


The strap has eight holes for adjusting and can go from 18" to 24.5" which allows it to fit a wide range of sizes. The leather is very soft and comfortable, making wearing the gag for longer amounts of time more comfortable. The buckle is easy to do yourself if you are using this for solitary bondage and the quick release snaps by the ball are a great safety feature, especially for those new to gags or for those doing solitary bondage. Please, if you are doing solitary bondage, have safety release mechanisms, sissors, a phone, or anything else you need in the event of an emergency that you can free yourself right away. Also, ball gags such as this will make you drool, so do not lay down on your back as drool can build up and you do not want to choke. Laying on your stomach, side, or sitting up are better positions to avoid potential hazards like this.

I wore this for both short and longer periods of time for up to an hour or two. It was extremely comfortable to wear which is great, especially for longer sessions. I did not experience much discomfort around the sides of my mouth where the leather comes through the ball. If you do feel some discomfort, loosen up the buckle one notch and that should help. This is a great, high quality product. I have not had any problems yet whatsoever and I love the safety features like the quick release snaps.

This product has very little smell and taste. When you first use it, the scent of leather is faint, and fades over a little time. The ball has a slight silicone tasting, but not much, and doesn't really have much other than a slight silicone smell at first. This ball gag is easy to care for and comes with a little card detailing how to maintain the quality of the leather. The ball is made out of 100% silicone so it can be completely sterilized, which is especially important if being shared. You can sterilize it by letting the ball sit in boiling water for a few minutes, or by using a 10% bleach solution. If you just want to do a quick cleaning, use hot water and some antibacterial soap or a toy wipe. If using a wipe, make sure it is safe to use on silicone products.

Do NOT submerge the leather in water! To clean the leather, take a damp cloth and wipe the leather. Oddly, they do not recommend hand drying (which I am guilty of doing as I am not in a situation where I can leave it out to dry. Aslan Leather also suggests using leather conditioner when needed to keep the leather from drying out and in top shape.

With the metal hardware, the instructions suggests putting a thin coat of clear nail polish to avoid the metal rusting. I did this when I got it to make sure it doesn't rust in the future.

As for storage, be sure to not store this with another silicone toy! 1 silicone + 1 silicone = 2 ruined silicone. I'm not sure about the science of it all, but silicone stored together is bad. I store mine in the original plastic zip lock baggie it came in, however a little pouch works too. Just make sure if you do get a pouch, that it isn't lined with fuzz. While this is nice for some toys, for this, the silicone picks up small bits of the fuzz, like a light fuzzy film. It doesn't attract lint or hair except for small specks/dusting.

The ball gag arrived as pictured above, in a clear plastic zip lock bag. While on the one hand, less packaging is better for the environment, on the other, the packaging might need some decorating if you are giving this as a gift. I kept the bag for storing the ball gag in, but using a pouch isn't a bad idea either.

Attached to the gag was a little information card on how to clean and care for the leather (discussed in care and maintenance). This is definitely helpful so you can get the most out of your purchase.

I definitely recommend putting clear nail polish on the hardware right when you get it to keep the ball gag in top condition. Also, if you have leather conditioner, you may want to use it if the leather gets dry in places. Although I am the only one who is using this gag, if you are planning to share it with someone, you can easily sterilize the ball, or interchange it with another one if you need a different size. Yet again, I love the quick release snaps as safety should be a priority in all BDSM play.
