The Sex & Mischief Red Leash and Collar set by Sportsheets could be a nice introduction into bondage play. It might make a nice set for someone just starting to explore power play or dominance and submission fantasies. This set will be ideal for beginners in the BDSM field; experienced players will more than likely want to look elsewhere at sets that will hold up to heavier use. This set is for light use only.

Depending on the wearer's leg or arm size, this adjustable collar may even work as a leg or arm restraint. The leash can easily be used to tie up and secure an arm or a leg in pinch, though it would likely not be completely escape proof. The leash could also easily double as a whip, if needed. In any configuration, this set is most suited for light play.

This collar and leash set is made of PVC fabric, vinyl with polyester, velboa fabric (the fake fur inside the collar), polyester webbing, nickel free metal hardware, and nylon. The outside of the collar is red, shiny PVC with black, shiny PVC edging. The inside of the collar is the red velboa (fake fur) fabric. The leash is a basic nylon leash. Although the metal hardware is labeled nickel free, those with nickel allergies should still be very cautious about using it, since that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is 100% free of all traces of nickel.

The collar has three buttons and three button holes, allowing it to range in size from 12.5” to 16.75” long. This range in sizing will allow it to fit a variety of necks, and possibly even work around thighs or arms. The button holes are evenly spaced 1” apart, while the 0.5” tall buttons are spaced 1” and 0.75” apart. The buttons punch through the button holes very easily, but by design are a bit harder to unbutton due to the bulbous button heads. Since the last button and button hole don’t line up perfectly, when all three buttons are in their corresponding button holes the end of the flap tends to stick up just a bit.





The PVC fabric of the collar is fairly delicate and has a tendency to wrinkle and crease when handled. Fingernails easily create indentations in the PVC fabric as well, just through normal handling. So, while the collar will look pristine before removing it from the packaging, after just one use you will see some normal wear and tear. These wrinkles, creases, and indentations are permanent. The PVC fabric on this collar appears to be much more susceptible to damage in comparison with other PVC fabric I’ve dealt with in the past.

When worn, this Sex & Mischief collar is sturdy and secure. It does not come unbuttoned on its own, nor does it have the tendency to turn or rotate when worn. It stays right where you put it (and if it doesn’t, well, isn’t punishing the wearer half the fun?). While it is a bondage and dominance set, its appearance can make it seem less intimidating for those new to that kind of play.

At first glance, this collar also looks to be designed with the comfort of the wearer in mind. It is lined with fake fur and quite adjustable, so it needn’t be tight when worn. Both those points are true; however, the fact that the collar is 2.25” wide will make it uncomfortable for people who don’t have long necks. The discomfort the width causes, however, may make this a good option if you want a little discomfort with your dominance and bondage play.

This set is best cleaned by hand, using just a damp cloth. The PVC collar can be wiped clean and then wiped dry. The nylon leash can be washed by hand in the sink with any kind of detergent, rinsed well, and then drip dried. Your red leash and collar set should be safely stored somewhere that it won’t be damaged by other objects scratching it or rubbing against the PVC material of the collar. Storing it in the box it comes in is a good option if you have the space.

This set comes in a very sturdy, yet not very discreet, cardboard box. The box is emblazoned with the Sex & Mischief logo on every side, and has pictures of a sexy woman wearing the set. On the back of the box, Sportsheets has printed the introduction of an erotic story to give you some ideas for roleplaying with this set.

This was my first experience with a collar and leash set. Even so, just from some quick browsing, I’ve seen other sets that I would recommend over this set. The collar on this set is just too wide. It honestly felt like I was wearing a neck brace! Even when worn very loosely, the collar is so wide it restricts my head movements up and down, my ability to turn my head from side to side, and makes me feel like someone is trying to strangle me. For some players, I can see how this extreme restriction would be part of the fun, but for me it made it totally uncomfortable. This is not something I’ll ever wear; it’s just far too uncomfortable and restrictive.

My other issue with this set is that the PVC material is so fragile. It just doesn’t stay looking brand new very long, and that’s only with extremely light use. It seems like the buttons may have a tendency to come loose if they’re tugged on repeatedly, like they would be with extended or frequent use.

Overall, I really don’t think this lends itself to heavy play, nor will it be ideal for beginners. It may turn beginners off of bondage play just because it’s so uncomfortable. I really like the fact that Sportsheets is making a line of BDSM gear that is affordable and lends itself to beginners, but this red leash and collar set just completely misses the mark for me.
