Silk and knots.
The Japanese Bondage Rope is good for an expert to have around and it's also a good item for a rope work beginner. It's very soft on the skin and holds knots so much better than any synthetic ropes out there.

Pros
silky, strong, knots don't slip at all in it
Cons
the knot instruction book is lacking
When it comes to restraining someone, for me rope is so much more sexy than leather and chains. I do have a partner that is more into the leather and chains, but he's always game for a little bit of rope work.
But I love doing rope work. I love the more artistic end of it and how pretty it can be. Give me a man or woman tied up and I am one happy kitten. There is nothing sexier to me than a man or woman with their arms dragonflyed (a type of art bondage with the arms behind the back and the knot work looks like dragonflies going down the arms) and on their knees. It just makes this kinky little kitten wet.
I do have a big collection of different types of rope, but when I was really looking at my collection I realize that I didn't have any cotton rope. I have silk, hemp and all kinds of synthetic, but no cotton. I had to fix that.
I found the Japanese Bondage Rope here on Eden and the fact that it is cotton is why I had to get it.
It comes in black (that's what I ended up getting), red and purple. It's thirty two feet long and it's just the right size to do more advanced rope work, but still not intimidating for a beginner. The cotton actually helps with the knots by the fact that it doesn't slip at all. The texture of this rope is so silky and soft next to the skin. It doesn't chafe the skin at all.
But always remember to use the two finger rule, just like you do with a dog collar, when you are doing rope work on anyone. This is very important to remember.
The Japanese Bondage Rope does come with some instructions on knot work, but it's far from good or informative. Get yourself a book on it if you don't know how to do it.
I have also started to test this rope in some costumes. I have a rope work belt that gets used to hold the tail of my kabuki lion on. And the fact that's Japanese rope and knot work just adds to all of it.

Follow-up commentary

I know it may sound a bit silly, even with as much as I do really like The Japanese Bondage Rope, I would prefer a much longer rope to really do the styles of knot work that I love.
However it has worked itself into some of my costuming. It's actually a part of my steampunk kabuki lion spirit dancer costume. And yes, I do rope work with it on one of my legs.
