Looking to add some new sensation or spice to solo or partner play? The Wartenberg pinwheel can provide fabulous sensation and light pain; the pain level is dependent on how firmly the pinwheel is pressed into the skin.

This pinwheel could be appropriate for quasi-beginners (people who are interested in sensation and beginning to explore light pain), or any others who are interested in adding in some lightly painful stimulation to their play.

My favorite use for this tool is to either run it along my nipples or to slowly guide it up my inner thigh until I very lightly run it over my clit, labia, and up my pubic mound. Please do be aware that sensitive areas of the body require a lighter touch for beginners and people who don't want to draw blood. The sensation feels quite unique, and for me, it tickles, pricks, and thrills.

The Wartenberg pinwheel is made of high-quality chrome and stainless steel and feels heavy in your hand. Since it is metal, it affords some delicious possibilities for temperature play. You can pop it into the freezer for a little while (be careful about over-freezing it; test it carefully on your skin before putting it on a partner), or warm it up with your breath or warm liquid. It is gorgeously pointy and looks like a genuine medical instrument, which can add to the fun of playing with it.

The handle is solid, slim, and fits comfortably in the hand. There are also grooves along handle to minimize slipping when gloved and/or lubed up. The wheel, although it can rattle a little as it spins, moves without difficulty along the skin, and has fantastic little spikes radiating out from the wheel. These spikes are what bring the incredible slightly painful sensation, without damaging the skin, since the spikes are evenly distributed so that the pressure is borne by more than one point.

The pinwheel is 6.75 inches, tip-to-tip, and the wheel has a diameter of just under an inch.

The product performs admirably and as-advertised :) Although I'm a Top when it comes to partner play, I enjoy sensation so long as it is my hand wielding the instrument. The pinwheel is well designed, well balanced, and performs exactly as described (which you would expect from something that was developed for medical use).

Since the pinwheel is non-porous metal, you can sanitize it easily using soap and water, diluted bleach solution, boiling water, or other related methods. Be careful to dry it quickly and not leave it sitting, though, because otherwise you risk rust.

For storage, I keep it wrapped in a cloth at the bottom of my toy box (next to my nipple clamps and other metal toys; I am careful to keep the points away from my silicone toys). Overall, as long as you are careful to avoid rusting, this toy is easy to care for. Although my pinwheel has never required it, if the wheel begins to stick, you could easily put a drop of WD-40 on the wheel to restore the function.
