pretty kitty breaks the leash law

This is a very attractive collar ideal for pet play and light-hearted power exchange. It's discreet enough to be worn in public but collar-like enough to be a signal for fellow kinksters. Since it doesn't lock and doesn't have a place for a leash, it's ideal for those who are into lighter power exchange.

Although there are some comfort issues (unbreathable foam inner layer, difficult fit, some snaps are loose) it's overall a good toy... so long as you're just going for looks.

Not lockable, does not work with a leash, cheap craftsmanship, and not comfortable enough for me

Use

This collar is all about looks, much less about function.

The bright pink and blue colors of this collar lend it well to lighthearted scenes with pets or very playful submissives and is in such bright gem stones it's much more discreet than say the bitch or the bad kitty collars. Worn with matching clothes, this collar makes a striking option for those wanting to broadcast their pet and/or submissive inclinations to the right people without outing yourself as a perv to every passerby on the street.

However, since it doesn't lock or have a place for a leash, it's best suited for those who are interested in using it for light play (or for those VERY well behaved pets). Although there is a gap in the second layer of polyethylene that *could* be attached to a leash, it's not strong enough to hold for very long. The weight of the leash itself is enough to stretch and distort the material and the fact that it's made with vegan material makes it harder to break-in or wear long-term. All of this adds up to make it a very good collar for looks, but a not so good collar for play.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The foam inner layer is comfy, but not very tactilely pleasant. It feels like ordinary craft foam that you can get at a craft store. It's soft but unbreathable and a bit like heavy polyester fabric on the skin. While this isn't a big deal at first, necks sweat…a lot. After wearing it for a few hours it starts to chafe quite a bit. The fact that it's foam also makes it feel more fragile than I feel like collar should be, even for lighthearted play.

The outer layer of polyethylene feels very cool, but similarly craftastic. The feeling is incredibly similar to the plastic used to make lanyards. It's slick and easy to clean, but it's also easily scratched, stretched, and broken. The edges are smoother than those I have seen in similarly priced collars, but I can feel the stiff outer layer a bit when wearing it.

The fastenings also add a bit of a problem. The two largest settings work fine. They're easy to snap on and off, but secure enough not to accidentally come off during play. The smallest setting, however, is VERY loose and could come off very easily. This is a big problem on my neck because it fits lose enough already to get caught on things. The fastenings (and the cute little metal bolts) are also made with cheap metal and have full contact with the skin all the way around the neck. For those with metal allergies (like my sub and I) this is a HUGE problem because it makes the already unbreathable collar feel itchy after about 20 minutes.

The fit is a bit tricky. Since there's just three snaps, you have to be lucky enough to have a neck that's either 12 1/2 inches, 13 1/2 inches, or 14 1/2 inches (by my measurements from the inside of the collar). I highly recommend measuring your neck first and checking that you fall at least close to this range before buying this collar. The collar is at its most comfortable if you can slide two fingers in between your neck and the collar, and (at least on me) a 1/2 difference lets me slide my whole hand in. I can wear it this loose, but it crawls around a lot and generally feels uncomfortable.

It's uncomfortable enough for me to put up with for fashion (because, frankly, if I'm already dealing with high heels and a corset an itchy collar is hardly noticeable) but my pet and I can't stand it for play.

Performance

Despite its comfort flaws, I kind of love this collar. It doesn't do everything I'd like it to and the use of cheap metal creates a significant barrier, but I kind of love it. It's so damn CUTE. Its playful design is something I haven't seen in many BDSM products thus far (except for a few riding crops) and playfulness is something I really, REALLY like. I mean, I absolutely love black, red, and tan leather products, but it's just not appropriate in all scenes.

Sometimes I want to be playful, cute, and downright silly and this is the perfect collar for those times.

It's also perfect for broadcasting your playful side in ways that other collars just can't.

So (until I find something better) I'll cover the metal pieces with clear nail polish regularly to protect my skin. I'll wear it for short periods to keep it from chafing too much and try very hard not to accidentally pull it off.

I will also paint my pet's nails to match and will totally buying her a new outfit to go with it.

Care and Maintenance

A little laundry soap and water in the sink cleans this toy just fine. Make sure to get the metal parts as dry as you possibly can to prevent rust (especially if you live near the ocean). I highly recommend covering the metal parts with clear nail polish, both to protect your skin and also to protect the metal.

Remember to be especially delicate with the pink outer layer of polyethylene because it's very easy to stretch out of shape.
