Koosh balls gone bad!
If you are unsure about this whole "pain" thing, this flogger is an excellent introduction. It is fun and a bit silly, which can help break the ice without breaking you or your bank account. You'll get a taste of the thud, sensation, and sting that is possible, without worrying about anyone getting harmed in the process.

Pros
Inexpensive, wears well over time.
Cons
Cleaning and storage can be a bit difficult.
I love my evil koosh flogger. That is what this one has come to be called. Ya'll remember Koosh balls right? Or am I dating myself here?
This isn't what I would consider a high quality toy. This is a novelty toy. It is completely fun though, and fairly reasonably priced. The make of this if fairly simple: long strands of black rubber were passed through a nylon loop (which then became the hanging strap) at the midway point. They then pass through a large black wooden bead, a clear plastic tube, another wooden bead, and are then allowed to hang free. A small piece of fuzzy animal print fabric is sewn into a cover for the plastic tube, and viola, rubber flogger.
It smells like rubber. This is to be expected. After several years, mine still smells like rubber, but I sort of like it now. A few of the strands have faded a bit, giving it an interesting variegated look, but it took a few years for that to happen and they don't appear to be weaker, just paler. The wooden balls have held their color well, as has the animal print and the nylon hanging strap.
I've used two methods of storage for this one: hanging (the best), and laid flat on a sheet of tissue paper, which I then rolled it up in, before folding gently in half and storing. This is the best way I know to transport it, and I highly recommend wrapping it in tissue paper or something similar if you cannot hang it, as that avoid the gathering of lint and the tangling of the falls.
The falls do sometimes tangle a bit during use, but nothing severe. Usually a moment to dangle while I whisper something provocative is all I need to give it. At most, it occasionally needs to be gently finger-combed back into submission.
I would classify this as a warm up toy. It has some sting mixed with a touch of thud, but it won't really get you flying on its own unless your pain desires are very low. It has an interesting soft and cool sensation when dragged lightly over the skin, can give you some sting when wielded so that the tips create the impact, and has a bit of thud if you allow most of it to fall parallel on the body. Most floggers do that, but this one does them all muted.
It has stood the test of time well, and I've never regretted the purchase. I do wish I could clean it, which you really can't do with any sort of thoroughness. This makes it more of a "one person toy" than I like, but many of my leather toys end up with that same problem; the price of what we do is the need for a big toy bag.
