I Heart Leather Floggers!
The Heart's Leather Whip has stolen my heart with its amazing smell, feel and heft. It is well worth the price for craftsmanship and beauty. It handles like a dream and delivers a thud like no other flogger I currently own. It is one of my favorites and will continue to be for a long time to come.

Pros
Beautiful craftsmanship, sells amazing, great heft an feel in use
Cons
Leather can mold or mildew
Mmmmmmmm is there anything better than the smell of leather? Well, possibly the smell of horsehide while it is still on the living horse but still, leather has a smell that makes my heart beat faster. That was my first observation about the Heart's Leather Whip, ok for the rest of the review we are gonna call a spade, a spade...or in this case a flogger, a flogger! The flogger smells like new saddle leather, all smooth and buttery.
It is a gorgeous flogger from its shiny metal brads and D ring hanger to it's lovely row of red hearts on the handle. It just screams class. Ok, ok let's start at the top of the flogger and work our way down shall we?
The flogger begins with a sturdy metal D ring for hanging the flogger on a strap, say on your belt or on the wall. You could also double a strip of leather through the ring and use a nightingale knot to secure it for a great wrist strap. The D ring is secured to the flogger with a strip of heavy leather that also covers the wooden dowel used to stabilize the handle. You can barely see how the strips of leather are bound around the dowel under the strap securing the D ring. Around the top of the handle is another sturdy strip of leather fastened with a shiny metal brad.
There is a strip of leather dressing up the wooden dowel handle upon which have been added some lovely red hearts in a pattern down the front of the handle. It is very elegantly done and the shiny metal studs holding the leather in place add to the look of the toy, rather than detract. A final leather strip is attached to the bottom of the handle just before the falls begin. It sounds like all this leather might make the handle bulky and large but I tend to prefer a larger tang to my floggers. In the end, the handle only measures 4.5 inches around at it's widest point. My hand fits comfortably between the strips at the top and bottom of the handle as does the hand of each of my guys making it easy to use for a variety of hands. In total the handle measures 6 inches with around 4.5 of those inches being between the two strips of leather binding the whole thing together.
My flogger contains exactly 22 falls which all measure approximately 1/4 inch. They are 14 inches long making this a bit longer than my usual floggers but still manageable. They are all cut to a point and have a finished look to them rather than a raw, just cut look. As is usual with a quality leather flogger the falls do not tangle or hold a knot easily.. I find that hanging the flogger up after use keeps the falls uncreased and looking amazing.
The Heart's Leather Whip is easy to care for and unlikely to land a blow that will cut the skin even with prolonged and harsh use. It lands a thuddy blow with a very light sting to it's finish. If you direct the falls to land all in a bunch it is a very dull thump but causing the falls to spread out a bit can up the sting factor. Hitting with just the tips of the falls can really up the sting factor tremendously but takes practice.
The falls are just long enough to allow some of the more advanced swings without being so long that you lose form. I would caution users to practice with a towel before trying this out on a new partner just so you can learn the heft and feel of this flogger.
The flogger should be stored out of direct sunlight lest it cause the leather to crack and stain. It should be kept out of humid areas and allowed to dry thoroughly after use or after washing. Leather can mold and mildew and it's a bitch to try to recover it after this happens. You can condition your flogger falls with either saddle soap or mink oil though it shouldn't be necessary for most users. If body fluids or blood should get on your flogger you can rinse it in hot water and allow to dry for a few days hanging up . Never store wet leather folded on itself.
Personally, I usually wipe the falls with a soft absorbent cloth and then store the flogger in a case after use.

Follow-up commentary
10 months after original review
This flogger has held up well to some pretty intense use. It doesn't shed and hasn't begun to fray on the falls like some lower quality leather floggers I own. The details on the handle are still firmly attached and look amazing. This is still one of my favorite floggers to both use and have used on me.
