Sportsheets' Sex and Mischief feather tickler is soft and well made. It's a great for beginners due to the fact that it is not intimidating in appearance. Ticklers are great when used alone or when combined with other play.
The feather tickler by Sportsheets is a cute little spray of feathers on a black plastic wand. You have your choice of a red, black, or purple tickler.
This tickler is meant for external tickling. It can be used along with BDSM gear or on its own to tease a partner. I would not recommend inserting either end of the tickler.
Since ticklers aren't intimidating at all, they're great for beginners. If you're interested in introducing toys like crops and whips, a tickler may be a good starting point for you. Users of any level will enjoy teasing their partner with gentle strokes with these soft, fluffy feathers.
The tickler is gender neutral in appearance, making it great for use by anyone.
The feather tickler is really basic in design. The handle and shaft are all one piece of black plastic. The plastic is firm and bends very slightly. It has a couple of small visible seams, however they cannot be felt. There aren't any sharp pieces of plastic hanging off of the handle or shaft. The handle has the Sportsheets logo imprinted on it. Attached to the tip is a spray of dyed feathers. Mine measures about 12 1/2 inches long; however, length can vary from tickler to tickler due to the length of the feathers. The manufacturer did a good job attaching the feathers to the handle of the tickler. No glue is visible on the feathers.
The feathers are very soft and feel great against skin. My tickler has more of the downy feathers than the exterior feathers that keep birds from getting wet. None of my feathers are broken or bent. They do have a natural curve to them. I received the black tickler. The feathers are all even in color and appear exactly as they do on the product page.
Compared to other ticklers that have a wand, the length of this one seems average.
Right out of the shipping box, my tickler had no scent to it.
I would consider the tickler to be well made for a tickler of this price. Since its main purpose is to tickle a partner, rather than spank them, it's not going to be as sturdy as a whip or a bat. For its purpose, it's very sturdy. The feathers are well attached and the wand looks like it will hold up to quite a bit of use.
There's really only one purpose of this tickler, and that is tickling. The feathers can be run along a partner's skin to tease them. They're very soft and feel luxurious against skin. If you're a bit sadistic you can also torture your partner if they are really ticklish.
The tickler can be paired up with any BDSM gear. You can blindfold your partner so that they don't see where you'll tickle them next. It can be used to soothe skin after you've used a whip or crop. It's easy to incorporate the tickler into any kind of play you'd like.
Caring for anything with feathers on it can be a bit difficult. Feathers tend to get kind of yucky if they get wet, especially if they get covered in massage oils or silicone based lubricants. To keep your feathers in the best possible shape, I suggest keeping them away from moisture. Don't tickle your partner if they have massage oil on them. Cleaning the feathers off with a damp cloth is possible; however, it may mess up the appearance of the feathers. If you do need to clean them, don't immerse them in water, just wipe them gently with a damp cloth. Leave the tickler out to air dry.
If your tickler happens to become dirty from being left out and getting dusty, you can put it in a paper bag with some table salt, maybe about a teaspoon or so. Shake the bag up to move the salt around. As the salt bumps against the feathers, it will take dust with it.
When you go to store your tickler, I strongly suggest putting it somewhere where it will have enough room for all of the feathers to spread out. I wouldn't put anything on top of it or put it in a small container. The feathers may end up getting bent out of shape. Storing it helps keep it clean and free of dust.
The tickler does not come in any sort of packaging. I received mine wrapped in brown packing paper in the shipping box. There is a small sticker attached to the shaft of the tickler's handle. It just lists the manufacturer and product name. It states the tickler is made in the USA. Other than that, there's no information whatsoever.
The tag is not discreet. It has the Sex and Mischief logo on it. While the tickler may resemble a cat toy, the sticker makes it clear this is used for sexual purposes. The tag is very easily removed.
Compared to other feather ticklers and some bats and floggers I have received, a lack of packaging seems to be the norm. Even though no user's instructions were included, you can easily find erotica and guides online to help you figure out how you want to use your tickler.
My partner and I simply use the tickler for teasing. I'm not ticklish at all, but he is super ticklish. I love tickling him because it's fun to make him giggle really hard. For that purpose the tickler suits us just fine.
My overall opinion of the tickler is okay. It's cute to have, but it doesn't really do anything for us. For that reason, I am deducting a star.
I am concerned that the length of time we have the tickler will be drastically shortened by our cats. They somehow manage to find everything I don't want them chewing on or playing with and they ruin it. If you have cats, I'd make sure to keep the tickler put away whenever they're around unless you want it to end up being little shreds of feathers everywhere and a useless plastic stick.
Follow-up commentaryI don't like it anymore5 months after original review
The novelty of tickling my partner with this wore off really quickly. At the same time, when I get it out of where I had to hide it, my cats go nuts because they think it is for them. Both of these factor in so that I don't ever feel like using the tickler. My partner can only yell that he's going to pee his pants from the tickling so many times before it gets boring.
Either way, the tickler is still in good condition. None of the feathers have broken off or gotten funky from use or storage. To keep the feathers in good condition, store it in a storage box or cabinet to keep it from getting dusty. Don't use it after a massage with lotion or oil and don't use it when skin is wet or damp.
