Inexpensive, Great for beginners, well-constructed
The Lover's Prisoner Kit by Sportsheets is an excellent way to introduce a little BDSM play into your sex life. Beginners will find the parts of the kit comfortable and easy to use. The kit includes two plushy, velcro-fastened cuffs that are suitable for wrists or ankles, a plushy collar with adjustable snaps, a nylon leash, and a rubber flogger. The fun with this kit is only limited by your imagination!
All parts of the Lover's Prisoner kit are well designed. The pieces of the kit appear to be sturdy and should last through quite a few play sessions. Descriptions of the materials and fit of the individual pieces are as as follows:
The rubber flogger is 14 inches in length from the bottom of the handle to the very tips of the fall. This size makes it easy for even novice players to handle. The handle is 5 inches long. Each end of the handle has a plastic ball on it. Between the two balls is a clear rubber portion through which the gathered thongs can be seen. The ball at the bottom of the handle has a nylon wrist strap attached to it for easy handling. The fall portion of the flogger is 9 inches long and consists of approximately 100 rubber thongs. When the flogger is removed from the packaging, it smells strongly of rubber. In fact, it makes the other items in the kit smell like rubber as well. The smell will no doubt dissipate with a good airing out. The flogger delivers mostly thuddy blows with a hint of sting. It can also be used to lightly tickle sensitive areas of the body. It is perfectly safe for beginners to use. The worst thing that could possibly happen is that your partner is sensitive to rubber and ends up with a rash on his or her bottom.
The collar 19 inches long by 1-1/2 inches wide. It it adjustable by three snaps that are spaced about 1/2 inch apart and embossed with the Sportsheets logo. A D-ring is attached and reinforced with nylon in the middle of the collar. The collar should fit any neck that is 19 inches in circumference or less. So, unless you have the neck of a linebacker, you'll probably be able to wear this collar. The collar is made of wonderfully soft and plushy red fabric. The edges are clean and the stitches securing the D-ring appear to be strong. This is a very nice beginner collar.
The leash is constructed of rugged, black nylon. It is not unlike a nylon dog leash. It easily connects to the D-ring on the collar. The nylon portion of the leash is about 42 inches long and 1 inch wide. It has the standard 2 inch long dog leash clip attached to one end and a wrist loop at the other end. It is very sturdy for many enjoyable hours of leading your "prisoner" around.
The wrist/ankle cuffs are by far my favorite part of the kit. They are constructed of red plush fabric, rugged nylon, and Velcro. The red plush portions of the cuffs are 10 inches long and 2 inches wide. A 3-1/3 inch strip of nylon backed with the "loop" portion of of the Velcro extends from one end of each cuff. This attaches to a 3-1/4 inch strip of "hook" Velcro at the other end of each cuff. Even though the main part of each cuff is 10 inches, it would be possible for someone with slightly bigger wrists or ankles to wear them. The Velcro is very strong, but allows for easy release. Attached to each cuff is a 42 inch long tether. These can be tied in a variety of ways for bondage fun!
My partner and I had fun dreaming up different ways of using the cuffs and tethers. You can tie them together or tie them to just about any stationary object. You can also rig them to a door. While restrained, the cuffs are extremely comfortable. I could sleep in them! Tugging on the cuffs will not cause them to come undone. Though I have not tried it yet, but I concocted an idea for modifying the tethers for even easier attachment to objects. The modification would involve sewing a loop at the end of each tether. You would then wrap the looped end around the object of your choice and pass the cuff though the loop before attaching it to your prisoner's wrist. These loops could be wrapped around a dowel or length of PVC pipe for hanging over a door.
The leash and collar can be used for leading your lover around or even be incorporated into what type of restraint you're using. Just be sure not to tug too hard. The snaps are pretty strong, but they might pop open with a hard enough pull.
Even though it smells strongly, I do enjoy the rubber flogger. My partner (who is not experienced with BDSM) was not intimidated by using it at all. He was able to control it easily. As previously stated, it could be used for more sensual play and for all out flogging. It's not painful, but I was not expecting it to be so.
No instructions were provided for care and maintenance. I think the best way to clean the collar, cuffs, and leash would be to surface clean them with a mild detergent (such as Woolite) and a warm, damp cloth. The flogger could be wiped clean with a toy wipe or other antibacterial wipe. My only warning would be to avoid getting anything oil based on the flogger. It might damage the rubber. Also make sure everything is dry before storing. Otherwise, the collar snaps, dog leash clip, and collar D-ring might develop rust.
How to store the kit items are entirely up to the user. You could certainly put them back into their original clamshell packaging, or you could place them elsewhere.
The kit comes packaged in a clear clamshell packaging embossed with the Sportsheets logo. Inside is a cardboard insert that features a picture of an attractive, bikini-clad woman straddling her bound male prisoner. The insert lists what items are included in the kit. It also has the company information on the bottom and the disclosure statement about the models on the packaging. There are no instructions. The only real suggestion offered by the packaging is what is depicted in the packaging picture. It is not very discreet packaging, but the clamshell can be saved for future storage. It does keep the dust out quite well.
I alluded previously that my husband is a BDSM novice. I suppose I am as well. Most of what I know of BDSM comes from reading and fantasizing about it for many years rather than experiencing it. This kit gave us the chance to safely experiment without any serious commitment. We had a lot of fun, and my husband discovered he had a dominant side after all. I praise this product for opening up my relationship to new sexual experiences.
Follow-up commentaryI still like it3 months after original review
I am still having fun with this kit. All of the pieces are still holding up to use. I continue to come up with creative ways to connect the cuffs to each other and to stationary objects. I think I need to add an extra set of cuffs for the ankles. Sportsheets makes several different sets of these comfy cuffs that can be combined for more play options.
Since smells can be a concern for some, I must say that I haven't experienced any reduction in the rubbery smell of the flogger. I think this is due to me storing it in the original clamshell packaging. I have handled Sportsheets rubber floggers that have been kept out in the open, and the rubber smell wasn't as strong as mine was. Therefore, I suggest airing out the rubber flogger if the smell is off-putting to you.
I am still happy to have this kit at my disposal for those times when I want to incorporate light BDSM play into my intimacy.
