hot and bothered
If you are into BDSM, beginner or advanced this kit might not be for you. I know, I know, "bondage gear is so expensive", and here is a little box with a few essentials and the price is right. If you need something for right now, go ahead and get it, it will add bulk to your toy bag as it grows. But for the vanilla couple who want a little spice, this could be nice. And who knows where it could grow from there.

Pros
An affordable way to experiment, fun to play with, comfortable cuffs.
Cons
weak "o" ring on cuffs, blindfold material is thin, whip has strong smell
I got the romantic restraint kit a while back, because i was looking for cuffs, and bondage gear was so pricey. I have had fun with it but, there is so much better gear out there. I feel like this would be a good set for a couple that has experimented a little with (or desperately wants to) sensory play and wants to have some toys to keep next to the bed. They do look a bit intimidating (in an exciting way) in a box spread out on a white cloth with some wax candles. So if thats what your looking for, you found it.
If your already kinky however I found that the Romantic restraint kit is a bit disappointing. It is a beginner set, so this is to be expected. But i think even beginners deserve the best. This kit might be a place to start (you can never have too many toys) but I would also recommend finding a play party, fetish night, or local bdsm group in your area (yup, we are everywhere). A lot of these groups have dinners (sometimes called Munches) where beginners and experienced player can come together in a well lit public place and meet. Some folks really like showing off there gear. Play parties even have community toy shelves, and are a great place to learn the ropes, or whatever is your thing.
The cuffs are durable neoprene (rubber) like material and although I do prefer buckles, i find the sound of the Velcro being undone to be nice. Sometimes i find having noise to break up the scene is comforting, when the cuffs come off, you can hear it. Also having Velcro makes them more adjustable than buckles. I have very small wrists and they fit me well, they also fit well on people with wrists larger than mine. They do fit my ankles, but I am small. I found the down side to the cuffs to be the key chain style o ring, d rings are much sturdier. But if your lover is not needing to be fully restrained, and won't attempt to test the cuffs, this might not be a problem.
The "tickler" was silly looking at first but has become a favorite play thing. It is a whip like toy that is comprised of many rubber strings. They have a strong smell and taste which is not appealing to some people, but I did find that it faded over time and with washing (soap and water). My lover is into lots of pain and laughed when i brought it out, until i gave them a good lashing with it. The tickler is a good toy for build up, you start with it and work up to the belt... and beyond. I feel like feathers might make better ticklers, but if you are very sensitive to light touches and your lover hit the right spots this could drive you to burst.
I personally felt like the blindfold was lacking a bit of flair. It is an elastic strap (not adjustable), attached to a piece of soft felt. It was wide enough that I had to work a little bit to see under it, but I like being a smartass bottom and was hoping to get some of the whip. The blindfold is probably the item that I find the least useful. Blindfolds are lots of fun, but I prefer a thicker material.
This kit was not perfect but did the job while I saved up for and learned more about better bondage gear. Soon my wish list will be filled with all the things I will someday have.. now off to find some wood to knock on.
