Hey, who turned out the lights?
This is not a novelty blindfold. Great value for anyone looking for a blindfold that stays put and doesn't allow peeking!

Pros
Leather, comfortable, stays put, blocks all light, reasonably priced.
Cons
None.
When I opened the package the first thing I noticed was the wonderful smell of leather. This blindfold is all leather, including the straps. The mask portion is lined for added comfort even when getting sweaty. The straps are completely adjustable with a generous portion of Velcro on both sides so that it should accommodate anyone's head.
This mask portion of the blindfold covers well above the eyes as well as below the nose; anyone who's tried blindfolds knows that's where most blindfolds tend to allow peeking. There is an upside down T-shaped slit where one's nose sits. Unfortunately, I found the slit was rather small so that the mask sat under my nostrils, making it hard to breathe as well as allowing in light. This is probably a good thing as it ensures the slit isn't too large, and it was easily resolved by cutting the bottom portion of the slit just a bit more. After that, the mask completely block out any and all light. The nose slot also ensured that the mask never moved around on my face, even when I slid my face across the mattress!
The straps on the blindfold are 3/4" wide leather with Velcro closure. The straps also allowed my partner to make sure that the mask fit firmly on my face and unlike elastic straps it didn't move all over the back of my head or get tangled in my hair. With moderate activity, the straps never came loose. However, with a good deal of effort I was able to drag my head enough to peel the straps open on the sheets. My partner quickly remedied this... with a paper clip.
Overall, this is a great blindfold|Extreme blackout blindfold for the price! I would highly recommend this blindfold to anyone looking to add a little zing to the bedroom or to those who are in to moderate sensory deprivation.

As far as opening the slit, I would suggest keeping the upside down T shape just lengthening the cuts as needed. There's quite a bit of room to increase each slit, about 1/2" to both sides and 3/4" upwards before you'd start getting close to the edge of the mask. I don't think it would rip easily because of the layer of dense foam and the mask is stiched all around.
