The Hearts Leather Collar is a beginner appropriate collar, but it is of high enough quality that a more experienced player may use it when a locking collar would not be suitable. This was actually the first collar I owned when I wanted a BDSM collar for play, but I wasn't in a lifestyle relationship at the time. More advanced users may have an issue with the lack of a lock compatible buckle, and with not having length options like most locking collars do. That being said, it is leather, and it's very pretty. It makes a good play collar.

Overall, I think that this collar is well crafted, with only one or two minor short comings that could be improved upon. I think it's well made; I've had the collar for over five years, and it doesn't show any signs of wear and tear. The collar is soft and smells similar to other items made of leather. I think the size is alright since it can suit a variety of frames, but I would have liked to see a S-M-L option to keep it from having too much excess in the back for smaller wearers. However, how adjustable this collar is would be a plus for new users to see how much length they need to be comfortable without having to worry about getting one that is too small or large. There are really no special features, seeing as it doesn't lock. I wish it had a lock compatible collar, but newer users will probably be fine with it not being lock compatible. The design is very pretty; I think that red hearts on the black strap is a lovely combination. The metal ring seems to be pretty sturdy; I haven't had any issue with it thus far.

This collar has performed exactly as expected. It's simple and straight forward, and it has held up well over time. These days I don't get much use out of it as I prefer a collar with a lock function, but it is a nice accessory for play parties or light play. I really enjoy the design, and I wish that they made a locking version with set sizes. But seeing as the collar doesn't claim to be locking it isn't a negative, just a person preference. The buckle works well and the O-ring can hold a tag or be attached to a leash. Can't ask for much more than that out of a basic collar.

This collar is very low maintenance. You can use leather cleaner, but I've never needed more than a slightly damp cloth. I've had no issues storing it; I keep it in a drawer with my other smaller BDSM items and it's never shown signs of that not being sufficient. It's survived several moves of being packed in various boxes, and you wouldn't know by looking at it. This collar is very easy to take care of and maintain.

While more experienced users might wish it had more sizes or a locking function, this is actually ideal for someone who knows they want a collar but aren't sure of the style of collar or specifics they are looking for. No lock means a quick off if you don't have the benefit of living in a lifestyle friendly environment. That, in itself, could be a benefit for newbies.
