Four Fetters for First Timers or Fast Cleaning.

While the petrochemical smell of the straps means these easy-to-use, unintimidating wrist and ankle cuffs won't have a place in my bedroom, they will come to good use in the shower, on camping trips, and other places I don't want to risk my leather cuffs. The Velcro access means these are perfect for those new to restraints. The >3 foot straps on each of the four cuffs are super versatile for anything you can think of---bed post binding, hog-tying, hobbling... you name it!

Use

The possible uses of these four faux-fur cuffs are practically limitless. The "First Fetters" set consists of a simple faux fur blindfold, and four identical Velcro-bound cuffs which can trap your ankles or wrists. Each of these cuffs has a 37" tether, which lets you put these fetters to just about any use your devious mind can conjure up.

The blindfold is not very unique, but it will be an appreciated addition to the set for couples who don't have a better blindfold. The fetters are the main draw of this set, though, thanks to their incredible versatility. Tie each of your partner's arms and legs to a separate bed post, or tie them all together in a hog tie. Simply hold each lead and use them as a collective leash, or hobble your partner. Because the straps don't have any extra trimmings or fasteners, you can tie your knots exactly where you want, giving your partner anywhere from a full arm's reach of free motion, to just a half-inch.

First Fetters' cuffs have Velcro closures---this makes them perfect for those who are new to restraint play, and for situations where giving the restrained partner the possibility of escape makes your play more fun or more safe. These cuffs are stitched such that when you yank the tether, the Velcro isn't strained, so the First Fetters will hold up well during use.

The least appealing aspect of these fetters is that the black straps have an unpleasant petrochemical smell that hasn't gone away after a week of use and two (hand) washings. The appealing side of that is that, unlike with my pastel leather Jaguar Cuffs, I don't feel bad taking these on camping trips where they might get muddy, or for shower play (you don't really think all those bars are to hold your washcloths, do you?). There are so many new possibilities that open up with these long leads which can easily be cleaned.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

First Fetters are made from three basic components. The blindfold is is mostly pink faux fur with a medium length thread, and it is held around the head by a black elastic strap. The cuffs are made from the same pink faux fur, which have black non-stretching straps (similar to backpack straps or lifejacket straps) stitched to them. There is Velcro (barbed side on the cuff, curly side on the strap) that lets you claps the cuffs.

These fetters should fit nearly all users. In order to have faux fur against all the skin, your ankles or wrists should be around 2.75" in diameter. If you don't mind having a bit of the soft part of velcro against your leg, your ankle maximum diameter can be up to 4" for the cuffs to close securely. Similarly, the elastic band of the blindfold should fit all average heads. (Personally, the smell is too strong for me to enjoy wearing the blindfold. It does block light except at the sides of the nose, though.)

Performance

The cuffs are quite comfortable to wear, even when you're applying a little force against them.

The straps, although they don't smell the best, are a good choice of material for their purpose. When you tie a knot in them, the knot stays in place. I found these fetters to work excellently as hobbles, and neither the knots nor the velcro weakened as I spent a hobbled afternoon. (If you ever feel like your cat doesn't love you enough, strap some of the First Fetters on.)

Really, I think the best feature of these fetters is that your imagination is absolutely the limit. The lack of fastening equipment means you can adjust every degree of freedom to suit your tastes---length, number of limbs, whether tied to your partner's body, your body, a piece of furniture, or a door. Simple double knots have been easy for me to tie and then untie, but those with superior knot skills will have even more possibilities.

Care and Maintenance

First Fetters and the Pocket Pinky blindfold are very easy to care for. I have been hand washing them with a bit of laundry detergent (I use a fragrance free version, but I'm sure fragrant ones would work too) and hot water, and letting them dry flat. They are also able to be stored however is convenient for you---I've been balling them up and putting them in a Ziplock bag so I don't smell them when I'm not using them.

These are not the sturdiest fetters in the world, but they still should hold up to a few years' use, and can be easily repaired by hand sewing if any stitching should fail. These travel easily because they have no metal, are lightweight, and fold up nicely.

Packaging

First Fetters come in a simple plastic box with a paper insert. The only thing remarkable about it, to me, was that next to the "Made in China" text, we are told that First Fetters are "tested on humans."

That makes me very happy.

Personal comments

I've really been enjoying these as ankle cuffs for my new spreader bar. Even just tying a simple knot designed not to slip holds well, even for two-hours plus use.

This picture shows one of the cuffs tied to the spreader bar hook, and you can also see that the fabric is holding up well after several washes.

Great review!! Once the faux fur gets wet does it still look ok after drying?

Maybe not all faux fur, but this stuff still looks fine! I put up a picture on the spreader bar page of one that's been washed and dried several times now: link
