The Black Rose Whipping Willow is a faux-leather flogger to be used during impact play for those who like to delve into BDSM practices. For those that are just starting to experiment with impact play, this flogger is fairly light weight and beginner friendly. For newbies, like myself, flogging can be an extremely sensual experience to have with your partner, but remember trust and communication are the keys to safe and enjoyable play.

Doc Johnson has come out with an entire line of sensual BDSM products that all seem to be beginner friendly, they are all in the Black Rose collection. Along with the Whipping Willow there is purple silk Rosie restraints, a eye mask called the Budding Binder, a mouth gag called the Forbidden Flower mouth bit, and a long strand of silk that can be used for restraint called Silky Surrender. All of the pieces can be used together to help a couple experience the sensual thrills of BDSM play.

Although the product page states that this is made from leather, it is actually constructed from faux-leather. The Doc Johnson website confirms this as they describe it as a faux-leather flogger, even though they have omitted the "faux" part on the packaging as well. The Whipping Willow had a slight chemical smell to it when I first received the flogger in the mail, this was a one of the big indicators to me that it was not made from genuine leather, as it did not smell leather like at all. To me the smell was not offensive it just wasn't what I was expecting when I received the flogger. Also after being aired out for several days the smell has dissipated.

The Whipping Willow is 24 inches long overall, with a 7 inch handle and 16.5 inch long falls. The 27 individual falls are 1/4 inch wide, and the ends are cut straight across. There is a 6.5 inch long wrist strap that comes off the top of the handle. Also on the top of the handle is a very cute little black rose.




The material that the black falls and wrist strap are made from are still soft and supple like leather would be, they even have the slight matte texture that soft leather has.


There is a smoother and thinner purple faux-leather that is wrapped around the handle and secured with a metal grommet at the bottom of the handle.


It all seems to be put together very well, I do not use it "hard" but I imagine that the Whipping Willow will stand up to heavy use.

The impact that this flogger delivers is thuddy whack. The only time it gets stingy for me is if the tips of the falls are the only part that makes impact, or if the tips wrap around my backside and hit me on the sides on my hips. I find the stimulus from this flogger to be sensational, I love the thuddy feeling. My partner and I do not get too heavy handed in our impact play, so the thuddy whack produced by this flogger has worked out perfectly for us. I have yet to be bruised or marked up after play with the Whipping Willow even though my skin gets a bit red during play. When not being used for flogging I also find that soft material of the falls to be good for lightly brushing against the skin for a teasing sensation between whacks.

The material page for faux-leather on Eden Fantasys recommends that faux-leather can be cleaned with warm water and mild detergent-free soap and a micro fiber soft cloth. I would recommend only spot cleaning if needed with a damp cloth being careful not to soak the Whipping Willow too much, even though faux-leather is water resistant. You can use the wrist strap to hang the Whipping Willow between uses, or lay it flat it a drawer. I find that the falls do not get tangled between uses when I store this is a bedside drawer.

The Black Rose Whipping Willow came packaged in a small cardboard box. The box has a picture of a model in a black thong with the whip hanging over her back on the front. The packaging is definitely not discreet being that there is a large picture of a mostly naked women on it. The back of the box has some information on the flogger. The packaging does list the Whipping Willow as being made from leather, it does not distinguish that it is faux-leather, even though Doc Johnson states on their website that the Whipping Willow is made from faux-leather not real leather. I think that it is very misleading for the manufacturer not to distinguish that it is not genuine leather on the packaging. Inside of the box the Whipping Willow's handle was covered in tissue paper and the falls in plastic.

My partner and I have been slowly experimenting with more bondage activities and impact toys. This was our first full sized flogger. Previously we had just used the whipper end of the Whipper Tickler. We had experimented with a paddle and a crop before too. The paddle is a nice sensation but can be a bit on the light side, where as the crop was too intense for me. I have really enjoyed the Whipping Willow, its thuddy whacks were exactly what I was looking for.
