Don't fear the cane.
This is a really fun toy that shouldn't be intimidating. There are plenty of "educational videos" online to give you ideas. This is a nice cane, but if you're trying it for the first time, you can make your own for *much* less.

Pros
Really fun to play with!
Cons
More expensive than it needs to be.
I've been exploring S&M for a while now, but I never thought I would like canes. Here's just another example of why you should have an open mind! It was my partner’s idea, and since I wasn’t adverse to it, I decided to go along for the ride.
Before we jumped into using this device, we watched several “educational videos” to get ideas about how to use it. Then we talked about what we each thought we would like and what to avoid in the first round of caning. We haven’t used this a lot yet, but we have found that it works really nicely for “warming up” the skin by lightly tapping the skin very quickly and briskly. It didn’t hurt at first, but then it starts to sting as you warm up. Once I start to get aroused I can tolerate much harder hitting, but I really enjoyed the warm up.
We used this toy all over my body: backs of thighs, butt, breasts, outer labia, inner thighs, calves. Just a note (in case it isn’t obvious), be careful when you cane someone. Try to avoid hitting bones or soft parts of the body where there are organs (like the abdomen or head!). That said, go nuts! This can actually be very fun. I like it when my partner uses the warming up technique I described above and then surprises me with a harder stripe across my ass! What fun!
I do feel like the matter of price has to be mentioned. This is a fine cane, don’t get me wrong, but the DIY side of me cringes at the idea of spending $25 on something that I could make myself for way less. If you’re crafty, go to the hardware store and buy a wooden dowel for like 75 cents. Sand it down, so it’s nice and smooth, and add some kind of handle. It isn’t going to be a nice as this one, but you could make about 30 of them for the same price.

Thank you for viewing Bamboo cane – flogging toy review page!
Not that a dowel won't work; it's simply not going to last very long at all nor will it be as safe. I can break a dowel the diameter of this cane very, very easily.
Definitely. If caning is your thing, get something nice. But if you just want an introduction to caning, a dowel can work very nicely at a fraction of the price. And you're right to mention safety. Even bamboo can splinter, so if you're really into hitting hard, go with rattan. Still, as long as you use your head (for real, guys), you can throw together a nice little impact toy for less than $2.
