Divine? Not Quite.

For me, the Divinity Blindfold missed the mark. Beauty doesn't do much when five minutes of wear is enough to send me after a bottle of painkillers.

Use

After using it, I'd recommend the Divinity blindfold to anyone who wears a medium-sized hatband or lower, who finds the idea of losing sight appealing. The soft faux-fur of the Divinity is nice against the skin, and for my first blindfold, I'm impressed by how well it does at blocking out sight. When positioned right, only a sliver of light near the bridge of my nose was visible.

If you have a larger head, though, I'd recommend skipping this one. For me, the pressure on my temples and the headaches it triggered outweighed the beauty of the divine.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The fit of this blindfold is where my issues started.

It's lovely to look at, but for me, once I had it in position, the pain started. If I edged it up so that the main source of pressure was across my browline instead of pressing against my eyes, I could see completely through the nose-hole. If I scooted the band up to try and lower the painful pressure against my temples, I could see through the sides.

I could see this working well for someone with a smaller head, who wouldn't experience such severe pressure, or for someone less sensitive. For me, though, using this blindfold is a guaranteed headache.

As for the material, the faux fur is nice to the touch, and the layer of padding seems to make it easier for the blindfold to block out sight. I found that it held close enough to my face that if I opened my eyes, it was uncomfortable- my eyelashes (which are normal length) would get caught against the fur. Overall I think this is probably a plus, because it encouraged me to keep my eyes closed.

I did find, though, that it sheds. When my partner took it off, he had little bits of blue fuzz stuck to his face. I'm also not convinced about the steadfastness of the dye. When I opened the package, the area where the faux fur had been pressed against the cardboard backing was stained a darker blue.

As for the band, it's normal elastic; not thick, not thin, not overly stretchy, just what you'd expect when you think of elastic.

The leather is a single layer and is a little stiff. The blindfold is packaged folded over on itself, and the nose bridge is considerably more flexible than the rest of the leather thanks to that. It has no noticeable scent, and is finished in blue stitching. There was a scratch across mine when I recieved it.

The gemstones feel a little cheap to me. They're set at odd angles within the caps, and came lightly scratched. There's a hint of rust on one of the caps.

If you're getting this blindfold with the intention of taking the gems off, I would advise against it. They're firmly set in the leather with thick prongs, and from what I can see, prying them off would leave you with unsightly holes in the leather.

Performance

I wear a large hat, and I found this blindfold to be uncomfortably tight. It might work well for someone with a smaller head, but for me it put uncomfortable pressure on my temples and around my head. It was fine at first, but after five minutes it started to ache, and after ten, I had a headache.

The shape of it is good, but I found it difficult to position to block out the maximum light. The more comfortable positions meant that I could see from under the nose and from the sides; the least comfortable blocked out the most light. Even with it positioned as best I could, I always had a sliver of light on the underside where it touched my nose.

Part of this might be how I'm built. I have a small, upturned nose without a pronounced bridge. My partner has an aqualine nose with a pronounced bridge, and he had less issues with light coming through. He was only able to wear it for a few minutes, though, before pulling it off with complaints about uncomfortable pressure on his eyes.

I did find that the fur became uncomfortably warm after awhile. It's around 60 Fahrenheit here at the moment, and I can't envision using this in the summer.

Because of the pain associated with this blindfold, I can't see it becoming a regular visitor in my bedroom.

Care and Maintenance

The combination of faux fur and leather makes this blindfold far from ideal to clean. I haven't had the faux fur get dirty enough yet to feel the need to clean it, but I don't look forward to having to do so without damaging the leather. Faux fur is usually able to be hand-washed, but I'm not eager to expose the leather to water and the packaging has no notes on cleaning. If anyone has advice on this, please share in the comments!

For me, I store it folded in the middle (it naturally takes on this shape) and stash it away with my other bondage toys.

Packaging

The packaging is non-discreet and minimal. It's a basic clamshell with a stiff paper backing that advertises the Divinity line, with a picture of a woman wearing a blindfold and a collar in the upper right corner. The blindfold can clearly be seen through the packaging. For me, I tossed it out as soon as I opened the blindfold.

For anyone interested in country of origin, the package lists it as Thailand.

Personal comments

I'm honestly disappointed in this one, and I don't know if it has more to do with the blindfold or with me. I can't see using this one regularly, given that for me it's a guaranteed headache.
