Crop Failure

A dual ended feather crop implement sounds like a wonderful sensory and spanking toy. I bought this thinking it would be a nice addition to our arsenal of toys. Sadly, it's not very well made. The feather portion is fine for teasing, but the crop portion didn't do much for me. Although not a very functional toy, it may do well as a costume accessory.

extremely useful review
I enjoy mild BDSM play. I like paddles and floggers that give mild to medium impact. Nothing to painful or punishing- just erotic teasing. Although I have a dozen or spanking implements, I had never tried a crop. I picked this one because it also had a feather top and was inexpensive to boot. I figured it would be a good first crop. I was disappointed. There is really not much redeeming with this toy.

Uses
Theoretically, a dual feather crop would be good for fun sensory play. Tease with the feather end and then throw in some whacks with the crop. There's lots of possibilities with both a feather and crop. Adding in a blindfold and cuffs makes it even more exciting. One thing I do like about this is the length. At about 20 inches long, it is perfect for close intimate play. Pity, I wish it was made better. This particular model isn't remarkable at all. The feather end is OK, but the plastic crop just doesn't do much at all. It literally feels like a light tap with the tiniest bit of sting. My husband doesn't enjoy pain at all and even he thought it was lame.

Materials
The crop is mostly made of plastic. The crop itself is a triangular piece stitched together and glued to the plastic handle. A clump of the glue is visible and the stitching is frayed. The handle portion is plastic wrapped in ribbon. The ribbon isn't wound as tight as it should be as it moves easily revealing the plastic tubing underneath. At the opposite end is the feather. I am not sure if the feathers are real or not. They do feel similar to my other feather toys, but I am not sure of their origin. It looks like a solid mass of feathers, but it is a loop of feathers. In the middle is a hole I can put my fingers through. The feathers do have some pretty tinsel added in. I think it makes it look festive. The silver is the only splash of color on the otherwise black toy. Feathers and fluids don't mix, so this should be kept away from lubes and massage oils.

It's not built to last. I don't really see it surviving more than a few play sessions. The wispy feathers are already starting to detach and fly away. Since both ends are just glued in, it's not very durable. That might be expected due to the low cost. It might be an appealing option to beginners but then again it might be better to purchase something a step above. I wasn't impressed even though I like to keep things mild. Heavy impact players wouldn't be thrilled at all. It might be good as part of a hallowen costume or perhaps for some roleplaying that didn't actually include much impact play.
Experience
I wanted to like this toy. I was excited to purchase my first crop. The fact that it had a feather made it even more appealing. The low price should have clued me in to the quality. However, I have found bargain toys before and thought this could be one of them. I should have done a bit more research and bought something else.
