If your crop looks dry, or feels unusual in your hand, you could wipe it down with a leather conditioner. These can be found in shoe stores, leather shops, or mass merchandisers usually. Follow the directions on the leather conditioner bottle if you're using this, and your leather should start looking as good as new in no time at all. Do NOT submerge the crop in water. After you've finished cleaning and drying your crop, it is easily hung by the strap on a hook. The crop should be hung, or laid flat in a cool, dry place. Instructions on cleaning would have been useful, but the crop didn't come with any.

If gifting this item you will have to find a gift box long enough to lay this crop in. This may or may not leave marks on your skin. I'm honestly tough-skinned, and this did not leave marks on my pale Casper white skin. I've read other reviews that say if you hit hard enough it will. It all depends on your personal preferences and what you can take pain wise.
