Can't Tie Knots? No Problem!

If you are handy with a sewing machine and can add the reinforcing stitches needed, this set has the potential to be a lot of fun. If you are worried about tying knots too tightly or not securely enough, but would like to try some light bondage, the elastabind kit allows you to explore new ground without those stresses. Aside from the weak seam issue, it's a great way to add a little spice to your usual routine.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

This product consists of three items packaged together as a kit: wrist restraints, ankle restraints and a tether to connect the other two to each other. The restraints are made of a very wide band of black elastic folded into a large loop, with a seam down the center to separate your wrists, or ankles in the case of the ankle restraints. The elastic used is soft to the touch, and comfortable against your skin. Each restraint has a metal D ring positioned at the center seam. The tether is a long strap, made of polypropylene webbing. Each end of the tether has a metal clip. You can hook the metal clips on the tether to the metal D rings on each restraint and, using an adjustable plastic buckle, you are able to control how close the two restraints are to each other. This means you can adjust the tether so that the two restraints are touching, or are about 48" away from each other (the length of the tether itself), and anywhere in between. This gives you a lot of option for positioning while wearing this set. All metal hardware used in this set is nickel free, if you have concerns regarding allergies.

The wrist restraints measure 5" by about 6.5", and the ankle restraints measure 5" by 8.75". The seam which is designed to separate your two wrists runs right down the center of that rectangle, same with the ankle restraint. At the approximate center of each restraint, there is a small tab of fabric and the metal D ring.

The sizing seems a bit on the small side. The wrist and ankle restraints will fit a wide range of people, but if your wrists and ankles aren't slender they may bunch up a bit. The bunching doesn't make them uncomfortable, and they still function well. Honestly, any sort of writhing or squirming against their hold will cause a bit of bunching as well, so everyone will experience this, even those with very skinny wrists and ankles.

There is quite a large problem with this product in terms of durability and quality of construction. The center seam of both the wrist and ankle restraint started to unravel on the first use. Just basic handling to check out the restraints caused the seam to start to unravel. The first time I put them on, the seam came apart a good two inches. I was sent a second set, in case the first set was a defective set, and the exact same thing happened. It seems as though, during production, there is no back stitching done at the edge of the seam. If you have a sewing machine, or are handy with a needle and thread, this is a simple fix. After adding stitching to reinforce the seams, the product has held up to many more uses. So, straight from the manufacturer, there is a serious issue. After you correct that issue, I think this product will stand the test of time. The issue happened on both the wrist and ankle restraints of both sets. I have tried to show the issue in these photos.

Performance

If handcuffs or smaller ties tend to cut into your wrists/ankles and you don't enjoy that, this set will solve that problem for you. You can easily slip your ankles into the restraints yourself if you desire, but you may need a bit of help to get both hands through the wrist restraints. Once you have the cuffs securely on, you can struggle and wriggle and squirm quite a bit, and you do feel as if you are stuck where you are. If you really, really try, you can get out of these, but it takes a lot of work.

You can use the wrist restraints with both of your hands going in the same direction, or going opposite directions, which opens up a lot of options for positioning. I was only able to make the ankle straps work comfortably with both feet headed in the same direction, not sitting cross legged.

The softness of the material lends itself to a comfortable experience, while you still experience the thrill of being immobilized.

Care and Maintenance

There are no care instructions included with this product. Actually, there are no instructions of any kind included. To clean the restraints and tether, You could hand or machine wash in cold water with a mild soap. Using the dryer may damage this product, so placing them flat to dry would be a much better plan. Given the issues with construction, I don't know that I will machine wash mine. I have spot cleaned them as needed using mild soap and water.

Packaging

The Sex and Mischief Elastabind kit comes in the standard Sex and Mischief cardboard box. While I wouldn't call it discreet, I wouldn't call it trashy either. The picture on the front of the box shows a woman all decked out in the kit, complete with tether. A classy black and white, it does a nice job of showing what you could accomplish with the kit. I will say, however, that she is standing with her feet pretty far apart, which isn't really possible while wearing the ankle restraints in the kit.

There is a brief erotica snippet on the back of the box, as well as a bit of detail about the set. Inside the cardboard box, the three components are packaged in a simple plastic bag which is not suitable for storing them after you open it. You could store the items in the box, or put them in a drawer or bag if space is an issue for you.

Experience

As odd as it may sound, even after the first set coming apart, the wait for the second set, the second set coming apart and the subsequent repair job, I can see the usefulness of this set. There are times when the hassle of ropes and the bite of handcuffs don't appeal to me, and this set is a quick, comfortable, easy way to keep someone where you want them. They fit nicely in a bedside table, to be grabbed in the heat of the moment.
Follow-up commentary
After battling seams and several repairs, these just aren't worth the trouble. There are easier ways to tie someone up, and those ways are also more comfortable than this kit.
