Pros
Beautiful, silky soft, will easily fit any sized head, fun to experiment with.
Cons
Doesn't work well for people with longer hair. Ties come undone.
Doc Johnson brings us a new line of beautiful props for light bondage play. The Black Rose Budding Blinder is an amazingly silky soft blindfold that can be used for sensation play or as a sleeping aid if kink isn't your thing.
The long purple ties make tying and untying this blindfold wonderfully easy to use. Those just starting their adventure into the land of kink will enjoy the sensual feel of the silk and leatherette blinder as their partner teases them. Experienced users may not not find this as appealing, because the ties can become loose if the partner wearing it moves around too much.
The front of the blindfold is made from a black fake leather material, there is some light foam padding in the center for added comfort. The black rose on the front of the blinder is made from the leatherette material and is quite large and sticks out almost an inch. I really was hoping that the rose would look like the one on the box, the one on my blindfold was disappointing. The back of the blindfold is made from a cheap feeling satin that my nails kept getting snagged on.
The long beautiful purple silk ties are 23 3/4 inches long each. When laying flat with the ties unfolded it measures an impressive 53 1/2 inches. This should fit everybody, even if you have a watermelon sized head. The mask itself is 7 inches wide by 3 1/4 tall.
It may not completely block out all the light for some people.
The silky ties made it a little annoying to put on. My boyfriend is the type of person that can't tie a knot or bow to save his life. Once we got it tight enough to be comfortable and stay in place, the party started! I noticed right away that I could still see a lot of light peeping through the bottom of the blindfold. It kept coming untied or slipped down if one of us moved.
We switched roles and I tied the blindfold on him and it stayed put! Maybe it just works better for people with short hair?
If your blindfold does happen to get a little messy during play, I wouldn't suggest putting it in the washing machine. The leatherette material would probably warp. Wiping it off with a damp cloth or a toy wipe and laying out flat to dry might be the best option.
The occasional knots are easy enough to get out thanks to the silky fabric and a little patience. Storage is easy, you can keep it in your nightstand, toss it in a sock drawer, or put in in your toy box with the rest of your goodies.
The packaging is lovely. The front features a woman wearing a much nicer looking blindfold than what came in the box.
There is no useful product information on the box, and no instruction manual included. The bottom of the box lists the Doc Johnson company contact information along with warranty/product registration instructions.
The Black Rose Budding Blinder comes in a simple plastic baggy, taped to a thing piece of cardboard. The plastic and cardboard box were recycled. The package was pretty and would be great for gifting, but it was too bulky for storage.
As beautiful as this blindfold is, it isn't very practical. The silkiness of the ties kept it from staying in place for more than a few moments. Occasionally, the ties would end up getting knotted into my hair. That wasn't pleasant! I tried using it as a sleeping aid for my afternoon naps, but it wouldn't stay in place.
It worked a lot better on my boyfriend. The ties stayed in its bow, it didn't move around or slide off, either. I really think it might just work better on people with shorter hair.
After a few more tries of messing around with the Black Rose Blinder, we figured out how to keep it held in place. A safety pin! Tie the ties into a pretty bow, stick a safety pin through, and ta-da! It stayed on for a whole session.
You might need a safety pin.

Now that we figured out how to keep the Black Rose Budding Blinder to stay in one place without sliding down or coming untied, we've started to use it more often. It is really a beautiful piece and I can't wait to try out more from this collection.
