The Silk Whisper breathes a fiery charge into the blindfold market with its embroidered silk dragons and fleece rear guard. For a few more dollars, an adjustable elastic band could've made this blindfold a five star winner. At 4 stars, there is still a lot offered in comfort and affordability, as well as a second use as a sleep mask.

Pros
+ Unique silk pattern + Fleece lining + Blocks out almost all light + Relatively inexpensive
Cons
- Non-adjustable - Not water- nor lube-friendly like neoprene
This is the second blindfold I've owned, although the previous completely fleece blindfold was solely for non-kinky naps. I bought the Silk Whisper because I knew how comfortable fleece can feel on the eyes and I was drawn to the silk embroidered design. My intent was to use this blindfold for sight deprivation during scenes; as a perk, the design allowed the blindfold to be passable as a sleep mask.
This blindfold is friendly to all experience levels because the elastic band strap is straightforward and the price isn't unreasonable. However, because the materials are more delicate than say, neoprene, I would suggest the PicoBong See no evil blindfold if you want the versatility of using a blindfold in aqueous (watery) situations.
In my experience, I like to use the Silk whisper for short (less than an hour) scenes in combination with a ball gag or paddle.
The blindfold's design was the main draw for me. The embroidered red Chinese dragons on the black background reminds me of Mushu from Mulan, as well as the House Targaryen coat of arms. Surrounded by red flowers on the same black silk background on the front, the design is also reminiscent of an Asian garden. Although I bought the black/red pattern, the Silk Whisper is also available in black/purple and purple/silver.
Lined with soft black fleece, the inside of the blindfold is comfortable against the face, as well as helping to block out more light. The black elastic strap is non-adjustable, with a length of 12.5"; it was tight on my head's 21.5" circumference. I usually wear a small-sized hat and I think this blindfold could be comfortable for the average person. On the other hand, the blindfold may fit too tightly if you wear a medium-sized or larger hat.
The blindfold blocks out most light except at the nose. If you are looking for full sight deprivation, this is not the blindfold for the job. As a light restraint blindfold, the fleece feels sensual against closed eyes without feeling itchy or too warm. Because the elastic band is completely flat, it's possible to rest my head on a pillow without discomfort.
As a sleep mask it was comfortable for a 20-30 minute nap; after 30 minutes, the tightness of the elastic band becomes too annoying.
Since the blindfold's embroidered pattern is silk, I would suggest hand-washing with lukewarm water and a tiny bit of gentle detergent, then blotting dry. I hang it up on a hook to further let it dry in my bedroom out of direct sunlight. Most days I store it on a dark shelf in the bedroom.
The Silk Whisper comes in a thin, transparent plastic bag from Leatherbeaten. I decided to recycle the manufacturer's bag for a Ziploc quart bag that is a bit more durable for travel. If you are going to present this as a gift, I would suggest folding up some wrapping paper into a handmade envelope to place the blindfold in. Or if you are feeling especially motivated, a heart origami envelope.
The Silk whisper blindfold's manufacturer is Leatherbeaten, a small company run by Hyacinth Prendergast and Bob McGlade based out of Ontario, Canada.
Like me, are you interested what this blindfold would be like if it had silk ties instead of the elastic band? Well, Leatherbeaten does offer something comparable called the Silk sashay blindfold, listed as an 'Upcoming Product' on Eden Fantasys. Until the Silk sashay blindfold is readily available, I have listed Lelo's Intima silk blindfold below if you are looking for a blindfold with silk ties.
Follow-up commentaryI still like it3 months after original review
I continue to use this blindfold, although I would still prefer if it tied via sashes instead of the elastic band. It's not the most comfortable blindfold I've owned, but I attribute that to the elastic band rather than the blindfold part.

Great review. I love this - another item on my "buy if it ever comes back in stock list." I would also like to see an adjustable band at this price point.
