Pros
Great beginners butt plug. Modest size for your anal pleasure. God for those who like silicone lube.
Cons
Could use a longer neck - some may prefer silicone to TPR.
Risque is obviously a butt-plug - I suppose you could use it vaginally, but I'm not sure why you would and I certainly wouldn't switch between anal and vaginal use.
I have to agree with those that say this plug is not a good choice for someone looking for a plug to use during double-penetration - which was a disappointment for me because I had hoped that it's modest size would make useful for that purpose.
For my wife its become a transitional toy as I try to help her work up from a 1/2" vibe to something larger. The smooth, 'soft' texture makes it fairly comfortable for a beginner - which she obviously is. It's not soft in the O2or Vixskin sense - but it is softer than hard-plastic.
For me this toy is a nice starter toy for warming up - prior to using a larger harder glass toy later.
All in all we don't regret this purchase - but it's a niche performer - so you need to know that the Risque will fit a niche that you need filled!
Risque is made with TPR - except for the plastic battery cover on the base. Actually I was surprised - it looks like silicone - and feels like silicone. We have other TPR toys that don't look or feel the same. Another reason I thought it was silicone is that there was absolutely no smell when I opened the package.
I don't use toys orally - so I can't comment on the taste.
The TPR is moderately firm - but has a nice give to it that makes it quite comfortable to use. We have the black one and it has a smooth matte finish with no bumps, ripples or other textures. The matte finish has a drag to it compared to harder glossier materials - but because its an anal toy your going to use lube anyway - and anything smoother would make it harder to keep inside.
IMO this toy is great for beginners. The modest size and smooth texture are non-threatening - and the taper does a nice gentle job of opening up my sometimes reluctant sphincter.
I rarely find that toys are not sized properly in the product section of the EF website, however, I have to report that in this case Risque is slightly larger than advertised - as follows:
Advertised diameter 1-1/8" - my measurement = 1-1/4"
Advertised insertable length 3" - my measurement = 3-1/4"
Nothing drastic - but worth mentioning.
Risque has a nicely tapered classic plug design. The tip is quite small - but not too pointy. Over about 2.5" the toy tapers up to 1-1/4" - then drops down to 1" - and there is only about 1/4" before it tapers back out to the flared base.
The 1/4" differential between the crest and the neck - and the short neck all contribute to making this toy harder to keep in that other designs.
The vibes are terrific - for a toy with just 2 AAA batteries, it has great power. I like the low-medium-high for the steady vibes - but you may like the myriad of patterns - all of which are delivered with adequate power. The vibes are focused at the crest (widest part) - but since the toy is so small and firm - the vibes travel well and are felt throughout.
Did I say they are strong? I did but its worth reiterating - its one of the only vibes that I prefer on medium instead of high. I haven't used up a set of batteries yet, but as the originals get tired - I can always get the extra power I need by going to the high setting.
One of the nice things about Risque is that it is quite quiet. A lot of cheap vibes are noisy because the batteries rattle around inside. The battery compartment of Risque is well made and holds them tightly preventing this secondary source of sound.
Since this is a 1-button design, all you can do to cycle through the vibe setting is keep pushing the button. One nice feature is that holding the button for a couple of seconds shuts off the vibes. When you push again it starts at the beginning. I like this start over strategy - others like the vibe to remember where it was. At just $30 - that's not a feature that can be supported.
When designing a vibrating butt plug its hard to locate controls. With the button on the bottom - Risque is not a good choice for extended wear - and the base is a little wide for that as well. The button may also be hard to reach if you have mobility issues. This is not a problem for us - because we do this sort of thing together.
Up until I discovered that Risque is made from TPR, I treated it like silicone and just used soap and water. Since it is TPR I now add an alcohol swab to add an extra layer of cleaning. One of the nice things about TPR is that you can use any style of lube you like - and since I like silicone for anal play, the TPR is actually an advantage.
The toy is water-proof which helps a lot with clean up. We haven't tried using it in the bath or jacuzzi but it seem well made enough for reasonable use in those environments. Its worth noting that the battery compartment cover can be tricky to take on and off. With adequate care it works fine - but don't force it - it could break with too much pressure.
We don't take any special precautions for storage - although we do keep out butt toys away from the others.
I really hope that the designers of the Risque read the reviews for this product and make some refinements. A generation 2 version of this product could be a real winner!
I bought the Risque as a step up toy for my wife - and for that purpose its working fine. Getting her to relax has been a challenge. Although she has not worked up to the full 1.25" at the crest, she likes the vibes and eventually we'll get her there.
For me it's not that big of a challenge. It's a great warmup toy and she can use it to jazz-up a nice BJ - or even HJ. Many complain that Risque pops out at just the wrong time - and yes this has happened to me. However because we use it for couples play - my wife can keep just a little pressure on it as I orgasm to keep it nicely in place humming away.
Follow-up commentaryI don't like it anymore9 days after original review
I wanted to like this toy - but I just can't get it to settle in place as a plug is designed to do. The neck is just too short - it reminds you that there are two sphincter muscles - and you have to get past them both. Sadly this toy only gets past the first one - then gets stuck.
