Icicles No. 2 by Pipedream is not to be missed. It's an aesthetically pleasing, texture-moderate glass toy with a lot to offer and little to intimidate. It's suitable for anal and vaginal use and the popping sensation each bulb gives is sensational. The longevity and aesthetic of glass will make it a great addition to your collection -- I love it in mine.
The Icicles No. 2 is a long, richly textured and aesthetically pleasing glass dildo. The graded bulbs, which make it look just like an actual icicle, are physically pleasing both vaginally and anally. Potentially, the No. 2 could also be used as a double-ended dildo if you'd like to brave the large end first.
You'll love the No. 2 if: 1. You like smooth, undulating textures
2. Like the feel of beads, but in glass!
3. Appreciate double-ended dildos
Really, my only complaint about the No. 2 is that it's totally clear -- what a small complaint! Lots of glass toys have gorgeous, rich, saturated colors while No. 2 does not. If anything, this makes it look even more like an actual icicle, in addition to its long, tapered shape. So, in actuality -- no cons. Snap this one up.
The No. 2 compares well to other glass toys. It is, however, fairly long, probably the longest dildo in my collection. The graded glass bulbs also make it feel a bit heavier than most toys, but this isn't a problem -- I don't think it's even heavy enough to irritate those with sensitive wrists or other hand joints. Check it out:
The Icicles No. 2 is made of borosilicate glass, which is silicon dioxide complexed with molecules of boron. Adding boron to glass makes it temperature resistant and shatter proof, both of which make the toy more safe and more fun. Temperature play is absolutely an option, and if this toy receives any impact trauma, it'll crack rather than shatter into a million pieces. This kind of glass is used to make excellent bakeware and resilient scientific glassware. As a glass toy, the No. 2 is absolutely nonporous and entirely smooth, so it can be shared safely between partners and is easy to clean. Out of the packaging and every use thereafter, the No. 2 has no taste or smell.
Glass of course comes with some caveats -- when cooling or heating, do so uniformly across the surface of the toy to avoid shattering it. Never attempt to cool one end of the toy and heat the other, as the toy will likely crack. In terms of insertion, be gentle when using it on yourself or others as the chance of bruising increases with such a hard material.
As you can see, the No. 2 is long, at 8". The bulbs range from 0.75" to 1.5", which is a fairly accessible range for most vaginal or anal users. That being said, starting at the large end first might be a challenge. A fun challenge! Since the No. 2 is so long, of course not all the bulbs will be accessible at any one time during play, which you may or may not consider a fault.
While I absolutely love the graded feeling of each bulb, I almost wish that the second bulb on the tip wasn't exactly the same size as the first. Possibly, I wish that the width increased a little more dramatically between each bulb. But these are small complaints in the grand scheme of things.
Is it a Christmas ornament? The No. 2 does not appear realistic -- honestly, if I found the No. 2 in a non-sexual context or no context at all, I wouldn't know that it's a sex toy or dildo. I might think it's a Christmas ornament or a household knick knack.
Vaginally, the smaller end is most comfortable for me to start with (though, with warm up, the larger end is just delicious also). Then, the popping sensation with every bulb stimulates my clitoral crus! It's a unique feeling that's neither extreme in textural sensation nor irritating due to the overall smoothness of the bulbs. The inward tapering between every sphere is just right to get a narrowing sensation before the next bulb is undertaken. It's a very undulating, unique feeling and I think it's incredible.
In terms of anal use, the No. 2 may be used safely if inserted like beads -- the longer length will help to make it safe as well as providing a challenge to work up to.
I would suggest that, when using the No. 2 with a partner (especially on the narrow end), communicate thoroughly about your comfort level with deep thrusts. The narrow end is quite small and could damage the cervix or other parts during anal use.
For me, I love glass -- glass is low-maintenance, but high durability and will probably outlast every single non-glass toy in my collection. Glass will not discolor, react with other materials or stop working due to electronic component breakdown. Glass is great to clean, since multiple options are open to you and there are no motorized components to damage. Feel free to simply wipe down your glass toy with toy wipes, soak it in a 10% bleach solution, boil it, run it through the dishwasher or simply wash by hand with warm soap and water.
Glass is also compatible with all kinds of lubes -- though I personally favor water based lubes. Water, oil, or silicone are all acceptable. No patch test required, simply be sure to not use a lube in the same encounter as something else that incompatible -- i.e., if you plan to use condoms later in the night, avoid using oil-based lubes on your glass toy if that's what you're starting with.
Packaging: Actually, the Icicles No. 2 came in some impeccable packaging. It's not a nice little pouch which I'm used to, but rather a large, rectangular box. Those who have limited storage space will mind this, but I actually appreciate boxes because they're stackable.
Obviously the box won't travel very well, but I don't mind. The box is tasteful thought not extremely discreet and I like the vanity flap that shows off the toy inside and is secured with magnets. It pulls out with a white ribbon, which is classy! The entire box has a black and white aesthetic which is quite sophisticated.
Follow-up commentaryI still like it3 months after original review
As a fan of texture, I'm still loving this icicle. Even better, I've found that the large bulbed end isn't as hard to insert as I initially thought, making this toy even more worth the price, in my opinion. The large bubble on the end is great for putting pressure on G-spots while the other end works best as a probe or for very tantalizing temperature play.
