The Pace was the most disappointing toy in Tantus' Alumina line. Although it could theoretically work well as a plug, most will be uncomfortable using this toy since it lacks a flared base. With a proper handle, both ends of the Pace could be used vaginally or anally. So unless you own another Alumina product, I would pass on the Pace.

Pros
Adds variety to the Alumina line, halves work well with larger handles.
Cons
Many will be uncomfortable using this toy as a plug.
The "backside friendly" member of Tantus' Alumina line, Pace was designed as a butt plug. Ironically, its lack-of-a-flared-base makes it unusable in this regard. The Tantus manual claims that this plug was made for "staying put and for prostate stimulation." Yes this plug has a long neck, which could decrease the odds for a disaster. And I cannot guarantee that this plug will cash in its one-way ticket to your large intestine. But I can compile a list of reasons why this toy should NOT be used as a butt plug:
1. Both ends are thin and round enough to "clear the hole." This is bad news.
2. Even if this toy was inserted (against my recommendations), I don't see an appropriate handle or grip that would facilitate its removal. If grabbed improperly, one might accidentally force this toy inside the anus.
Theoretically you could put prevent the Pace from going into oblivion by slipping a condom around the toy and keeping the extra material outside your body. However I'm hesitant to recommend this unless you have experience in the area.
But there is good news! Let's not forget that pieces from the Alumina line can be interchanged. This means that you could take the head or neck of this toy and attach it to the larger pieces (as in any of the other pieces) in the Alumina line. Therefore I can recommend this toy as a vaginal or anal dildo, assuming these exchanges were made. By itself, I found the Pace too small to enjoy vaginally.
The Pace is made out of 100% aeronautic grade aluminum. I noticed that it was a little bit smoother than the Flow and the Revolve. This might be because this toy was "designed" for anal usage. I do prefer this texture, however with lube, the difference is not noticeable.
Since this toy is made out of aluminum, it has absolutely no give. This can be advantageous for g-spotting, with a larger handle of course, or for anal play. Both ends of the Pace are unintimidating, so I can recommend it to beginners/those new to metal. But please remember my warning about anal play with the Pace!
Aluminum is also fantastic for temperature play. Interestingly it holds heat/cold better than stainless steel or glass. Simply run the Pace under hot or cold water/ice for new sensations. Be cautious while playing with the more extreme temperatures.
Although the Pace can be used for anal play (see my Personal Comments section), I would not recommend it since the diameter at its largest point is only 1.25". Theoretically its long neck would lower the chance of any mishaps. But even if I did insert this toy in my bum, I have a feeling that I'd be disappointed because the neck is only .5" thick. Generally I like to grab onto something substantial.
The Pace is also .4 lbs, with a total length of 5" high.
As a butt plug, it didn't. At least for me. The two halves were useful when attached to other pieces from the Alumina line. I preferred the thicker pointy end. The smaller rounded piece didn't do much with my g-spot. With an adequate handle, the larger end of the Pace did succeed at stimulating my g-spot.
Like all toys in the Alumina line, the Pace can be sterilized via boiling. Or you can wash it with soap and water. If you can secure it in the top rack of the dishwasher, this toy is dishwasher safe. Remember to sterilize this toy after anal usage, especially between anal -> vaginal use.
The Pace comes in a black box. This box has special foam padding for support. There is also an external foam insert to protect the front of this toy. The black box is very simple, with an outline of the device on the cover. The name and Tantus logo are displayed in silver letters. Unless someone is familiar with the line, he/she won't assume that this product is an anal toy.
A detailed manual is included with the Pace. This manual describes the Pace's unique composition, lubricant compatibilities and cleaning instructions. It also summarizes the other toys in the Alumina line.
If I were to rank the Pace given only its base and its handle, I would give it zero stars, because I wouldn't ever use it. I cannot recommend spending $70 for an ineffective plug (or dildo). Jimbo Jones and ThePornLibrarian| have used this plug successfully. So it's not impossible. As a safety precaution Jimbo Jones recommends using it with a partner. Namelesschaos was unsatisfied with this plug since it was uncomfortable (He did like the toy when it was used with other handles).
I included these other perspectives because I didn't want you to think that the Pace could not be used as designed. However I cannot recommend using a toy anally if I am not comfortable doing so.
I definitely like the pointier end better for G-spot stimulation since I generally like thicker dildos. Although I haven't tried out all of the possible handle combinations, my favorite thus far is the pointy end from the Pace + the handle from the Flow. Its relatively thin diameter made angling the toy to hit my G-spot simple.
In short, I love the two halves of the Pace as an addition to other toys in the Alumina line. I recommend buying this toy ONLY if you have already purchased, and enjoyed, at least one other Alumina dildo. Either end of the Pace adds a new twist to the other interchangeable handles, which you will likely enjoy.
Follow-up commentaryI still don't like it3 months after original review
Two months later, I still haven't used it. I don't use it with a different handle and I don't use it as a plug. Maybe someday, but at this rate, it'll take a while.
