The Triple Ripple is marketed as a butt-plug, but I find that it's much better suited as a training toy for anal beginners. The first ripple is small enough that anyone can take it with ease, while the last one has similar girth to a larger dildo. The ripples themselves make for excellent sensations by themselves though, so I wouldn't write it off as just a toy for beginners.
It's made out of rubber and is porous, so you should definitely use a condom of some sort for safety purposes. Upon initially opening it, I was greeted with the strong smell of rubber, but that is a trait of just about any rubber toy. The smell will never completely vanish, but I have noticed that it has at least diminished over time.
The material is also pretty firm, though it's fairly easy to bend it at the thinner sections. That said, don't expect it to do very much bending once it's inside you. As a result though, you can be sure to get some pretty nice prostate stimulation out of it, since it's almost guaranteed to not bend and go right past it.
Bar none, the best feature of this toy is the rippled design. The smallest bump, the head, is practically tapered and makes for a great entry point. After several uses I eventually had gotten to where finger prep for the toy wasn't even necessary! The second bump is a fair amount wider and will probably require some back and forth to get used to, especially for beginners. Finally, the last bump is very girthy and will require some mind power to get down to, also especially for beginners.
It's worth mentioning that this toy is not really a butt-plug, since it lacks a steep drop in size after the last ripple in order to keep it in. I've attempted on a few occasions to see if it would stay in like a butt-plug, but it has always slid out easily. The base is also flared like an ellipse, so the toy is able to go in slightly deeper depending on how you have it (and the base) turned.
In terms of size, the toy is probably small enough that you could carry it with you in something to keep it hidden fairly easily. That said, after being seen it's obvious what it's intended for.
This toy is outright amazing. Though I would have liked to see some sort of suction cup, it's still pretty easy to keep it held down and pound away. The steep increase in sizes mean that I've always got to spend several minutes warming up and accommodating it, but they slide in and out with an amazing sensation afterwards. The base also makes a great handle for whatever position you happen to be in at the time as well.
Because the base is flared, it should work great in a harness as well. I haven't really thought about using it with our harness prior to this, but it should probably work with ease. I'll comment on that in a follow-up!
First of all, I again highly suggest using a condom for easier maintenance. It will make the difference between how long this toy lasts and how easy it is to clean.
When using a condom, clean up is as simple as peeling that off and washing with an antibacterial soap and warm water. Then just dry it off and return to the package it came in for storage. It would also be wise to give it a brief washing before using it the next time as well.
Without a condom, lubricants can be somewhat difficult to get off, but even if you do clean it well, something is likely to be trapped in the minute pores. Just be overzealous when cleaning it!
Finally, avoid any sort of oil based lubricants, since this is a rubber product. I've found that the toy works splendidly with Maximus lubricant.
The packaging is very basic, in that it's a thin plastic container that can be closed again. There's virtually no instructions, aside from the typical Doc Johnson advert backing of the package. However, the package itself does make a great container to keep it separate form other toys.
As mentioned before, the main purpose of the toy is to help you increase your ability to take larger things, and that's what I purchased it for. It has done marvelously at that, but that hasn't made me stop using it! The size increase leads to wonderful feeling of not being too large while also giving you a totally full feeling. The ripples themselves still make for remarkable sensations when used (slowly or rapidly) and it has still remained one the toys in my staple.
In conclusion, if your on a budget and don't mind sliding a condom onto it for each use, the Triple Ripple makes an amazing toy for just about anyone. If your interested in anal but don't know where to start, this possibly the best way to go!
Follow-up commentaryI still like it9 months after original review
I would raise this wonderful contraption up to a 5-star now. It has become my go to toy, even though its a rubber material toy. It's been a spectacular warm up toy for whenever I want to use a different toy or engage in pegging. Speaking of that, I did get around to trying it in a harness, but it didn't work that well there. It's mostly a length issue, as the Triple Ripple is prone to popping out when used as a strap on.
Overall, this is still a fantastic toy. If Doc Johnson made a silicone version, I would immediately buy it without question.
