Somehow I thought science would feel... better

It's possible that I simply haven't worked hard enough to enjoy the full benefits of the MGX yet. Still, I think that with some slight modifications to the parts of the toy not intended for penetration, the MGX would be much more enjoyable and easy to use effectively. If you're seeking the holy grail of orgasms and willing to put in the time, the MGX may be worthwhile. However, if you're just looking for a fun toy, you should probably look elsewhere.

Use

The manual included with this thing is very specific about how to use it and frankly, I would stick to the recommended use. You'll absolutely want to use lube with the MGX, but you'll have to experiment to find a comfortable position. Before I got really comfortable with anal penetration, I found it easiest to lay on my side with at least one of my legs pulled up to my chest during insertion. While that position made insertion easy, it was sort of awkward, clinical, and unsexy. Now I prefer simply getting on my hands and knees when inserting the toy.

Proper usage requires you to insert the toy, then flex and relax your sphincter muscles, which is supposed to move the product in a way that massages your prostate. While I was able to feel the movement, I didn't find the sensation on my prostate as pleasant as other types of prostate stimulation I've tried (including fingers). The manual suggests that, with practice, one should be able to induce a P-spot orgasm without penile stimulation. While I acknowledge the possibility, I've been using the MGX for several months and don't feel any closer to this hands-free orgasm.

Moreover, the MGX is pretty unwieldy after insertion: the external nub situated to stimulate the perineum makes sitting upright very uncomfortable. In fact, the nub makes pretty much any use of the MGX uncomfortable. It is too large and tends to dig into the perineum uncomfortably or simply slide off to one side or the other.

Material / Texture

The material is food grade, phthalates free, hypoallergenic, latex free plastic. The plastic is very rigid and smooth, save for the ridges around the base. The MGX is virtually odorless, has no taste that I can discern, although why one would bother to find out is utterly beyond me.

I do find that the MGX is a bit rigid for my tastes, particularly for use during sex. Whether or not my fears are warranted, the rigidity also makes me cautious about using it in ways that might break it. However, the nice thing about the plastic is that, if you don't like the perennial nub, you can just file it down.

Design / Shape / Size

Because I think the most important part of the design of any anal toy is the size, we'll start there. The diameter, at its widest point, is 1 inch. The MGX isn't graduated the way a lot of plugs are, so you can't just jam it up there (at least I can't, yet). You'll definitely want to use some lube, but the size is perfectly modest and comfortable enough for a beginner to anal play, while (I imagine, I'm no size king) still big enough for intermediate and advanced users.

The aesthetics of the Aneros toys has always struck me as very modern/futuristic, which some users might find appealing. Personally, the twists and twirls around the base were sort of off putting when I first looked at the toy, and even more so when one of the aforementioned twirls started boring into my perineum.

I wouldn't exactly call the MGX discreet, as it would probably make a poor paperweight. However, it doesn't scream "DILDO" at casual viewers, and is more likely to prompt questions like, "What the hell is that?" Furthermore, the futuristic medical science image Aneros has crafted seems to dispel awkward questions of sexuality that might otherwise deter those with strict ideas about gender roles from using anal toys for men. Thankfully, I don't suffer from any such affliction, but my girlfriend doesn't share my enthusiasm for gender play. I find that the less something looks like a real penis, the more willing my girlfriend is to put it in my butt. So guys, if your girlfriend is freaked out by phallic toys for some reason, the MGX (or any Aneros product, for that matter) might be worth checking out.

Performance

The size and shape of the Aneros MGX is perfectly suited for its purpose. Admittedly, few products truly fit into the "one-size-fits-all" category, so the MGX may be a bit longer or shorter than users desire. However, it seemed pretty well crafted for my anatomy in terms of size. While I love anal play, I am ill suited for the rigors of girth, and I find the MGX to be very comfortably sized.

On the other hand, the product did not perform as well as I'd expected. Anal stimulation may be my favorite part of sex, but frankly, I just didn't have that much fun with this product. The curves at the bottom are uncomfortable at best, painful at worst, and prevent the MGX from staying in place. At the peak of its performance, the MGX gave me what I'd describe as a mildly pleasant massaging feeling, and nothing more.

I honestly can't speak to the health benefits, as I have no problems with my prostate as of yet (knock on wood). However, simply for purposes of pleasure, a basic slim butt-plug would be a better buy, in my opinion.

Care and Maintenance

This is one of the categories in which the MGX shines. This thing could not be easier to take care of, which is important for any anal toy. I usually use mild soap or a toy cleaner and warm water, which does the trick just fine. However, if for any reason you want to boil it or put it in the dishwasher, you can. Just be aware that the manufacturer has recommended keeping the toy away from direct heat, so you're probably best just sticking with soap and water.

Another benefit of the material is that it doesn't pick up fur and lint the way materials like silicone do. This cuts down on prep and cleanup time for me, at least until I find a more suitable place to store my toys.

Packaging

The inclusion of instructions was a nice touch with the MGX. While I chalked a lot of the claims up to puffery, it did at least provide me with a sense of how I should be using the product and what to expect.
Follow-up commentary
So, the day I wrote my original review of the MGX, I decided to actually spend some serious time working with the toy and trying to reach an orgasm without my hands. I experimented with a number of positions: on my stomach, my side, and laying on my back with my knees raised and my feet flat against my bed. I watched some pornography, wrote a few emails, even made a phone call. All in all, I think I was at it for at least an hour. It was only after I turned off the pornography and just focused on what was going on inside of me that I really started to feel the massage on my prostate. After about 15 minutes of that, it finally happened: I had my first hands-free anal orgasm.

Whatever words I use to describe the amount of ejaculate that shot forth, it will sound like hyperbole, but I assure you, it is not. Usually when I orgasm, it comes in waves, as does my ejaculation. This didn't. It just kept coming. I was on my back at the time, and I was basically covered from head to waist in semen. It would have been something to behold.

Despite all of this, the MGX is still not my favorite toy. Sure, the orgasm was incredible, but the process of getting there was a bit tedious. Hopefully I'll soon be able to find a toy that feels great while building to orgasm as well as during climax. Still, I have to give it credit, I've never had an orgasm like that before in my life.

Great job on the review! Hopefully if I submit a review the "hands-free anal orgasm" fairy will visit me, too!

Awesome review! I rally like the description about the hands free orgasm. I've been trying and I figure I should get the hands assisted p-spot orgasm right before trying the hands free. I have a lot of the nexus toys which I've never been able to successfully master - granted, I think my partner carries a little blame cause she can't wait and normally takes over manually.

I digress. Thanks for the review!
