Tantus has again delivered a top-notch product here in terms of quality and function. I definitely plan on making this toy a regular part of my masturbation routine and am glad that I finally (it’s about time) bought my first butt plug after having had erstwhile experience with anal. Based on my experience with the Severin Small, there’s no way that it will be my last, either!

Pros
Perfect size for intermediate players, silicone, easy insertion and cleaning, comfortable.
Cons
Other than possibly being too large or small, none.
The Severin Small is intended for anal use, hence its designation as a butt plug. It can comfortably stay in one place for an extended period of time to stretch yourself out, either by itself or to prepare for anal sex or a larger toy.
You could also use the Severin more like a dildo and thrust with it, especially since its shape is conducive to this (more on that later). While it is technically an anal toy, it could also be used vaginally, provided that you properly sterilize the plug before switching orifices.
The Severin is made of 100% silicone, which makes it a perfect material for use as an anal toy since it can be easily cleaned. It has no odor or taste that I could detect. The formulation used in this toy is a very smooth, sleek, and glossy silicone that is slightly tacky to the touch, but not in an unpleasant way. It picks up lint, towel fibers, and whatever else it happens to come in contact with, as those who have played with silicone toys would likely know.
The first thing that I thought of when I saw this toy was either a miniature snowman or a very curvaceous Mrs. Butterworth (pancakes, anyone?). My Severin is black, but Tantus also makes this toy in red. It has a small knob at the top, followed by one smaller and one bigger bulge before it levels off into the neck of the plug and the large, flared base that will not get lost inside of you.
The design is intended to allow each of the knobs to "pop" into you and create a satisfying sensation upon insertion, and upon thrusting/removal of the toy. In my opinion, the fact that the bulges are slightly sloped and do not give you a sudden, abrupt change in size allows for easier insertion. At the same time, the fact that there are narrow sections before each bulge offers a place for you to stop should you need more lube or warm-up time.
While this Severin is listed as "small," I would probably not recommend it as a good toy for someone with no prior anal experience. While this is technically my first toy intended specifically for anal use, I have had anal sex before (using fingers for preparation). The circumference of the largest bulge on the small Severin is probably comparable to an average-sized penis, at a little less than 5" in circumference. I measured it at about 1 1/2" in diameter at its widest point, which is what it is listed as on this site.
If you have never inserted anything in your ass before at all, I would recommend that you start with a thinner probe or plug before choosing this one as possibly a second toy. While I found this to be a comfortable size for me, more advanced players should probably try the medium or large versions of the Severin. EdenFantasys currently offers the former but not the latter.
I did not feel as though this toy was particularly difficult to insert. The smaller bulge is large enough to feel, and I enjoyed the stretching sensation as I pushed the larger one in, as well as the "pop" when I removed the plug. It took me a short amount of time to work up to the largest bulge, and I enjoyed the full feeling that it gave me once it was all the way in. I proceeded (after wiping the extra lube off) to sit at my desk, browse the Internet, and walk around my apartment for a bit.
Since I am new to plugs, I had a little bit of a feeling like "will it come out?" and I tried to hold it in with my finger, but soon realized that I didn’t have to and that it would stay pretty firmly in place. I also experimented with it while I used one of my larger dildos vaginally with the Severin inside me, and I did not detect the plug slipping out in any way while I did so.
I didn’t notice any discomfort from having it in - the base nestled nicely in place and when I was sitting down, I couldn’t feel it poking me (or really feel it much at all). I left the plug in place for only about an hour and a half but probably could have kept it there for a lot longer. Once I've used the plug more, I'll post an update in my followup review.
The Severin is made of 100% silicone, so it is non-porous and easy to clean – I did so with simple Dial soap and water, dried it off, and put it back into storage. You can also use commercial toy cleaner, a 10% bleach solution, a three-minute soak in boiling water, or a run through the dishwater. As with all silicone toys, make sure that you use only water-based lubes. Combining silicone lube with the Severin would likely ruin this great toy, so exercise caution.
The Severin Small comes in a clear, rectangular display case with a loop presumably used to hang the product for display in a store. It is not particularly sturdy, but enough to keep the toy securely in place/from jostling around in the package during shipment since there is a further clamshell-type packaging inside the box that easily opens so that you can remove the product.
The box contains information about the company and proclaims that the toy is 100% "ultra premium" silicone and tells you that the toy is hypoallergenic, phthalate free, and a host of other good stuff associated with silicone toys. Since the packaging is transparent, I would not call it discreet since you can easily see what is inside from all angles, aside from the opaque back. However, it is very tasteful and lacks any nude models or similar gimmicks.
I noticed that when I placed the Severin down on my wood/plastic kitchen table, the base of the toy stuck to the table slightly. The sound that it made when I removed it reminded me of adhesive being pulled off. I further experimented with this by pressing the toy more firmly - it adhered to the surface like a little suction cup and required more force to pull it off. Before removing it, I wiggled the toy and gently hit it. The toy wobbled, but the base remained fixed to its spot on the table.
I suppose that this function could be useful if you wanted to mount the toy onto a flat surface and insert it that way. I considered the possibility of using the plug that way and seeing if it would move from the spot during insertion. However, I vetoed that idea because I’m not sure if my table can hold my weight, and I’m kind of leery about risking my furniture since a new one is out of my price range at the moment.
Follow-up commentaryI still like it11 months after original review
This is still a great go-to plug for regular use. I'm not always in the mood for anal play, but when I am, the Severin is one of a couple of plugs (mostly also by Tantus) that I know will stand up to regular use and are safe and easy to clean as well.
