The Ripple is a nice sized anal probe with bulges for added stimulation. The size works well for beginners, while intermediate users may also enjoy this because of the bulges. It is comfortable to use and made of silicone so it is easy to clean and sanitize. I think it makes a good anal toy for beginners because you can choose to only insert so much. Overall a nice one to try!

Pros
Nice size for beginners Stimulating bulges Safe material
The Ripple, made by Tantus, is a modest sized anal probe, that can be used as a plug when no other stimulation is involved. The material and gradual increase in size of each bulge makes it great for beginners. You can even work very slowly and only use two or three of the bulges for a few sessions and then when you feel ready insert all 4. The nice sized base on this one keeps it from slipping inside of you and it also works as a broad enough area to apply vibrations using another toy if you desire.
The Ripple is made of Tantus' 100% premium silicone. This makes it safe for everyone to use because there are no harmful ingredients. Whenever I get a product from Tantus there is no smell or taste and I know I am receiving a quality product and don't have to worry about the material degrading (unless one were to use silicone lubricant).
Besides the bulges, the Ripple has not other texture and is completely smooth to the touch. In addition to it being smooth the material is a nice medium in regard to firmness. This quality makes it even more inviting for beginners to anal play.
The Ripple has an insertable length of close to 4 1/2 inches. This would be too much for me if the first two bulges were larger in diameter, but it works nicely for very slow thrusting. I have tried to keep this one inserted for a period of time and find that the extra length makes it kind of easy and hard at the same time. Because there is so much length if I move around my body makes this one move and sometimes causes it to come out. However, if I stay still then there is enough length to keep it from slipping out by itself. It just depends on what I am doing at the time. The Ripple has a 3 inch circumference and a 1 inch diameter around the large bulge close to the base. The first two bulges are a lot smaller and make it so that they are not felt as much during insertion. The size of the other bulges provide a nice sensation when inserted and again when removed. I can also feel the muscles in this area contract around the bulges which is also nice.
This is my first anal toy with this shape and I found that I really enjoyed it and it added something different to the small anal section of my collection.
I think this toy works best for when I want to manipulate it during use, as opposed to just leave it in while I use another toy vaginally. It is nice to slowly glide it in and out and feel each bulge as it enters me as I push it in and exits me when I pull the toy out. I did not experience any discomfort when using this one and my ass was very happy about that!
It does not stay in by itself if you want to engage in other types of play, so this may be a negative for some. With that being said, if I were expecting this to be a plug then I would be disappointed, however this one is actually advertised as an anal probe so I was not expecting it to stay in perfectly.
One problem that I did have is that if I wasn't holding the rest of the Ripple steady enough then the flexible shaft caused insertion to be a bit difficult. This is easily corrected when you hold the toy closer to the first bulge during insertion.
Overall I enjoy this one, but I think I enjoy simple plugs that can be left in during other type of play better because I like stimulating more than one area at once.
Because this toy is made from silicone it is very easy to care for. It can be cleaned with anti bacterial soap and water, toy cleaner, or toy wipes. If you would like to sterilize it then it can be boiled or wiped with a 10% bleach solution. This is important to me because I like anal toys that can be sterilized better than those that can't. I guess I just like all of my toys to be really clean.
Like all silicone toys, it is best to use water based lubricant to avoid the material having an interaction with the silicone in silicone lubes because this will damage your toy.
I keep this one stored in a ziploc bag. The box it came in takes up room in my cardboard toy box, so this way keeps it lint free and safe from reacting with other materials that I have.
The Ripple came in a smaller version of normal Tantus packaging which is a clear plastic box with a molded insert inside that holds the toy. This one happens to be more sturdy than some of my other Tantus boxes, so it can be used for storage although I use a bag. This packaging is not discreet because you can see the toy right through it and because it has some information about Tantus being a leading manufacturer of adult soft toys. If the person knows they are receiving a sex toy then this box is ok for gift giving, but if they not or if there are others around who may be a little freaked out, then I suggest a different box.
Although I enjoy my time with the Ripple, I do not use it as much as I would like because I prefer anal and vaginal stimulation so that I can orgasm and this one doesn't stay in well enough. However I do enjoy this type of anal play alone if I am just trying to enjoy the sensations and not necessarily reach orgasm right away.
Follow-up commentaryI still like it3 months after original review
Although most of my newer anal toys have more girth than this one, I still enjoy this for warm up and those occasions where I don't want to be full. When I use my plugs I tend to want to keep them in while using another toy vaginally, which I can't do with this one. Instead, I like it for slow thrusting to get me ready for something larger. I am glad that I purchased this one and think it would be a great option for someone brand new to anal play to test the waters with. If I do "outgrow" this one at some point, then the Ripple Large might be something I try as well.
