Rhapsody in Purple

This is not your average set of anal beads. Rhapsodia is a versatile, attractive, body-safe and well constructed toy that comes in great packaging. It isn't the best toy for beginners but I would recommend it to anyone with some anal experience.

Use

Rhapsodia is listed under anal beads but it works well as a plug or exerciser and can also be used vaginally. It is suitable for long-term wear, masturbation, or partner play. I would not recommend this toy to anal beginners due to the size and hardness, but they could always start with inserting just the first bead and work their way up to the larger ones.

Material / Texture

Rhapsodia is made from non-porous TPR which is phthalate and latex free and can be used with all types of lubricants. The beads are made of hard, ABS plastic and coated with the TPR. The cord and the areas between the beads are flexible and have a slight amount of stretch. It has a matte texture which helps to hold onto lube. Each bead is printed with a 2: (Close2You's logo) which has slightly raised edges. I can't feel the logo during insertion or removal, but I was able to feel it if I twisted the toy around while it was inside me.

Design / Shape / Size

Rhapsodia is made up of 3 beads that get gradually larger, and a retrieval string that ends in a heart shape. The design is similar to vaginal exercisers like the SinFive Emigi because the bottom two beads contain hard balls that rattle around and provide a feeling of vibration. It is 8 1/2 inches long and the 3 beads have a combined length of 5 inches. Since the sphincter closes around the retrieval string, the end of the toy will go around 6 inches deep. The beads are 1", 1 1/4", and 1 1/2" in diameter and the hard material makes it feel larger. The areas between the beads are about 1/4" wide and are quite short, so the anus doesn't fully close between each bead.

Performance

I bought the Rhapsodia for anal use but since it can be used vaginally as well I decided to try it there first. It felt nice to pop the beads in and out and to let my muscles clench around it during orgasm, but my vagina is too short for me to wear this as a vaginal exerciser.

Used anally, the last bead is too girthy for me to insert and remove repeatedly but I like to hold onto the largest bead and pop the middle bead in and out. It is not comfortable for me to quickly remove all the beads at orgasm, but that technique works well if I only insert the first 2 beads.

I have used it along with a modestly sized vibrator in my vagina (the Fun Factory Spring). It took a little effort to get the vibrator inserted and once it was in, it felt best to leave the vibrator still rather than thrusting it. The hard material of the Rhapsodia transferred the vibrations very well.

I have not used it for double penetration with my partner, but I think it would be a little too large and hard for that. I kind of want to try it with him just because the heart on the end of the cord looks way better sticking out of my butt than the base of a regular plug does.

The cord is comfortable for long term wear including walking and sitting. It's fun to move around while using this toy to make the little balls vibrate inside me, and it doesn't take a lot of movement to get them going. I find the feeling a lot more noticeable when I use the Rhapsodia than when I use my Emigi.

One thing I didn't like is that because the handle is so flexible I have to hold onto the beads while I'm lubing up the toy, so both my hands end up covered in lube.

Care and Maintenance

This toy is non-porous but can't be boiled for sterilization, so use a condom if you want to switch between anal and vaginal or share it with a partner. Wash with soap and water or use a toy cleaner. I've found the Rhapsodia tends to hold on to residue more than other toys I've used, but it rinses or wipes off easily since there are no little grooves you have to scrub out.

Packaging

Close2You has very nice packaging and includes some freebies. Rhapsodia comes in a white box with a picture of a woman lying on a man's chest holding the toy in her hand. The front swings open to reveal a clear plastic window with the toy visible underneath. On the side of the box are 2 drawers. The top drawer contains the Rhapsodia, lying in a foam cutout. In the bottom drawer there is a purple velvet storage pouch, a purple silicone cock ring, a toy cleaning wipe, and a little tube of lube. The lube contains: Aqua, Propylene Glycol, Aloe Barbadensis Gel, Glycerin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) and Citric Acid. There is also a booklet that shows all of Close2You's toys and gives a little product information for each one. No real instructions are included. The information about the Rhapsodia is also printed on the back of the box. Both the pouch and the box work great for storage.
Follow-up commentary
Although this toy can have several uses, I've found that for me it is really best used during masturbation along with a clit vibrator. It is a bit uncomfortable for me to use along with vaginal toys, or as I suspected, during sex with a partner. It is fun to wear around so I can feel the little balls moving when I walk, but I've actually only done that a couple of times.

I also wanted to address the issue of the safety of this toy. The heart base on the handle isn't that much wider than the largest bead, but I haven't had any worries about it slipping inside me. I actually don't need to rely on the heart, because the toy is 8 1/2 inches long, and my body is not able to take that much length. There's always over an inch of the cord left outside me. Even if I could take the full length, I would feel safe using this toy. The heart is wider than the last bead, made of a firm material, and is not shaped in a way that I think it could slip inside me by accident. It seems like it would be difficult to insert even if I were trying. I can't make any guarantees though, and someone who is able to take a lot larger toy than I can could potentially have an issue with the base on this.

Shellz- Great question! I'm going to write a follow up review so I'll answer it there.

    Awesome - thankyou for that.
The length probably protects it slipping in for most of us. I guess it's one of those types of toys that ya just need to assess when using for the first few times.

I'm totally sold - can't wait to place my next order. Love the sound of the internal balls.

    Thanks again

Thanks for the follow up. The base on this toy does make me too nervous to use it.
