The cobalt is a "beginners" butt plug. I put this in quotes because I think it is on the large side to be a beginners toy. As you can see I have lined it up with standard beginners toys and it is fairly larger than the bunch. That said it isn't so large that it is for advanced users either. I would say it would be the next step up from beginner, that perhaps starting with a smaller toy and working up would be the way for beginners to go about it. There are no safety precautions other than being mindful that it is glass and therefore inflexible. It is both flared and has a handle so it will not get lost when playing with it.

The Cobalt butt plug is made of Borosilicate glass, making it non-porous and very firm. Glass is great for temperature play as it can be gently heated or made cold depending on one's desires. This means it also warms to body temperature rather easily. It is very smooth, so you don't have to worry about it having any texture and that does make it ideal for those fairly new to adventures of the "rear" kind. Also, given that it is non-porous glass it has no odor to speak of.

This is not a very lengthy toy, it's insertable section is 4 inches and the flare and handle takes up another inch and 3/4. The diameter of the toy is 1 1/2, it is nothing for someone who is using toys already but I hesitate to say it's a true beginner toy honestly. First of all, I love the handle on this toy. It makes it so easy to maneuver. This was my first plug with a handle like this and I was super excited to try it out. That being said, the lip on the toy is really not comfortable or necessary. The ring is large enough to keep the toy in safely and it is incredibly uncomfortable to walk with the plug in. Because of this I definitely don't recommend it for long-term wear.

Seeing that the toy is made of borosilicate glass, it is actually very easy to take care of. It can be washed with antibacterial soap, washed in the dishwasher, and toy cleaner. I personally store mine in the velvet bag that came with it, in with the rest of my nonporous toys. As far as lubes go, the Cobalt can be used with any kind. You don't have to worry about oil or silicone lube reacting with this material.

I got this toy with a few others. When I opened the main box, it was wrapped in bubble wrap with a velvet storage bag. There were no instructions to be found, but then again, do you really need instructions for a standard butt plug? What are you going to say, insert plug A into slot B(utt)? Pardon the dry humor. I was happy to find this toy with a storage bag. I actually have two glass toys that did not come with a bag, and I constantly worry about damaging them.

I was super excited for the mailman to come that day. Not only did I get a kegel's kit, but it was the day my Cobalt was to arrive for review. I'd recently started anal training again for when my fiance got home from AIT (2nd half of boot camp), and I wanted to be able to surprise him with anal sex while it not being super painful for me. I had already worked past the dinky little beginner's ones I had to lie around and was excited to try this one enough that I almost didn't manage waiting til nightfall. But I did, and I was all excited as I laid it out and grabbed lube.

My first impression was that it was not a true beginners toy. The neck was an inch thick, and most beginners toys I knew of were not an inch and a half wide. It actually took a bit of work the first time around seen as I was not used to toys with those dimensions. After a little bit of work I got it in, and it felt nice. My next inclination was to see how it would be to walk with it in, as I always am looking for plugs I can move about the house in. This trial flopped. The lip at the base of the neck made it incredibly uncomfortable to walk in. I was pretty disappointed as this is a really cute piece.
