The Progasm seems to be one of the most popular Aneros models, the sledgehammer of prostate massagers. I have really liked this particular version of the Progasm because of the type of plastic. It's similar to glass, but less likely than glass to break. Definitely take it slow, but the journey and the destination seem to be worth it.
Like all other Aneros prostate massagers, the Progasm Ice is meant to be inserted anally to stimulate the prostate internally, while the perineum portion stimulates the perineum. Since it is primarily for prostate play, it's intended for the male-bodied only. The Progasm is the largest of the Aneros massagers, designed to provide a filling but still agile experience. I think it would be fine for sex. It was great while masturbating, with or without penile stimulation. Prostate orgasms are apparently very intense and spread throughout the body, as opposed to penile orgasms, which are centered there. Given the size of this toy, it's probably best to get acquainted with it alone before adding a partner, unless you are already familiar with objects of this size or greater being inserted.
As with all anal toys, be sure to use plenty of lube, a slight stretching sensation is probably inevitable but everything should be comfortable, and STOP if things get uncomfortable. Take a break, warm up with fingers or other toys first. This is not an unmanageable size, but it will probably require some time to work up to it. Just be patient - it's worth the wait!
The material and texture are why I chose the Ice over the other Progasm models. I really enjoy that the Progasm Ice does not have any dyes in the plastic (colors can't be good for you!), and this plastic feels smoother than either the plastic on the MGX classic or the silicone on the Helix Syn. It's definitely rigid and feels somewhat like glass. It does heat up a little bit but certainly not like glass or metal. On the bright side, I would worry like CRAZY if I had a piece of glass this big, prevented from being sucked in only by the two prongs. They are sturdy as hard plastic, but I don't know if I could trust glass to hold up as well. I have not found any type of glass prostate massager with this kind of hands free design. The closest is probably a butt plug like the Neptune or Icicles no. 14, so if you're looking for a glass Aneros, this is probably as good as it gets.
I had a tough time getting past the head of the Progasm at first, but after switching to the MGX and trying the Progasm again, it went in easily. The head on the Progasm is much larger and less tapered than on the other models.
The bulbs are substantial, but not necessarily in a bad way. The perineum and kundalini tabs are great. I especially love the ball on the end of each tab, as opposed to a disc for the Helix Syn, or the rounded end on the MGX. I do wish the main body of the Progasm was a little more tapered like the other models.
The Progasm seems to stay in place very, very well. I'm not sure if it's the sheer size or the fact that both tabs are engaged with the body, but it doesn't seem to shift around much. On the other hand, the Progasm is still pretty mobile on the in-and-out aspect. I only had one issue with it popping out, but this was rare because of the second bulb/head to catch it. Removal was not difficult. This surprised me because I have had issues with removing after orgasm before, as my anus refused to let go of the smaller siblings.
The shape, clear material, and the bubbles contribute to lend it an artistic look. The bubbles are theoretically unique on each Progasm Ice.
This is still a pretty big toy for me. The last couple times I have tried it, I felt kind of overwhelmed by the size and it was a little uncomfortable, so I can understand why this is the largest Aneros. It also seems to overshoot the prostate lately. Perhaps I have not been as aroused prior to insertion (the prostate enlarges when aroused), or maybe I rushed into insertion. In any event, I have enjoyed it each time I used it, but I think the first few times were the best so far because I was SO excited to try it out.
This is pretty tough and very smooth plastic. You will definitely want to wash it every time to help keep its glossy finish. I use soap and warm water, shake dry, and then leave it in its plastic molded case without enclosing in a box.
The Progasm Ice came in the same classy packaging as all other Aneros models: a cardboard box, around a magnetic closing box, around a plastic mold to hold the Progasm. It's very nice, with the subtle Aneros logo on everything, and no explicit imagery. Not much for instructions - the same basic pamphlet as all other Aneros massagers - but there is plenty of information available online.
I really enjoyed the new plastic. The glossy finish seemed to help reduce drag by a lot, especially compared to the silicone on the Helix Syn, but also compared to the original MGX. If glass is like this, I can see why people are so in love with glass. The unique "snowflake" bubbles didn't do much for me, but maybe I just got a lame set of bubbles. I do kind of wish I had opted for the Progasm Jr. since it sounds like it would work better for my body size (I am about 5 foot 9 inches tall), but am very happy with this one.
When I ordered this, I was sure this would be my last Aneros. I loved everything about it. This provided the most intense prostate massage I have had so far, and made me feel like I was on the verge of orgasm. The first few experiences were probably closer than I have ever gotten to a prostate orgasm so far, but it seems to be two steps forward, one step back, and after experiencing the Progasm Ice I am happy to go back to the MGX for now. I am assuming each has its own use, I just haven't discovered all of them yet.
Follow-up commentaryI still like it11 months after original review
After about a year, this is my go-to prostate massager. It stays in place for just about any activity, doesn't turn, and I really enjoy the back ball. It's a lot easier to insert at this point; angling slightly to get the first bulb in has helped immensely and with just a lot of practice, it takes less than a minute, even with almost no warm up. It makes me feel full and stays in well at this point (initially I had problems because it did not seem tapered enough at the bottom, but I have not had any issues in a long time). It provides the most stimulation of any of the Aneros products I have, although I have to admit I'm considering the Junior version, as it looks like it might deliver a more targeted massage. Time will tell!
