I really want to love the Helix.

This is a nice solid prostate massager with a shape that hits the spot, but results may vary from person to person. I question the design of the perineum tab. Too pointy & not long enough. These toys are not really one-size-fits-all and results are all over the map. Ideal for kegels. Super O is as elusive as female squirters seem to be. It's questionable whether just anyone can teach themselves to have one.

Pros
Can use with any lube, stays put, solid firm plastic, nice shape, well packaged.
Cons
Overpriced, Perineum tab too short, might not provide results promised by marketing hype

Use

The Aneros Helix is a stay-in-place prostate massager that is designed to move with your motions and/or muscle contractions to stimulate the prostate, while laying down or having sex.

The Aneros (like Nexus, Janus and others) are designed to be worn during masturbation or sex, or during relaxation/meditation sessions, in the case of the Super-O/Hands-free orgasm & holy grail of male orgasms quest. In these reported events, men can have body convulsing, multi-orgasmic, almost black out extended orgasms, without ejaculation that can last from minutes to hours. Not all men's prostates are created equal or the same distance from the anus though, so experiences vary and it can reportedly take years of "trying" and frustration to reach that first super-o (the equivalent of multi-orgasmic squirting in women you could say). The secret to such pleasures seems to be in not "trying" and just relaxing and letting it happen. Easier said than done. It helps to having been trained in kegels and re-wiring your body, so to speak.

Utopian orgasms aside, prostate stimulation and wearable P-spot massagers can help regular men achieve much better, intense orgasms and stronger ejaculations, with a more body centered experience.

You do not need to manipulate the Helix. Just relax, lube, insert it and go about your business and enjoy. Aneros website has a thorough set of directions and an active community with resources to help newbies learn to enjoy their toys and get in touch with their "inner self" so to speak.

The idea is to let your natural (conscious and unconscious) anal/pc contractions alternately draw the toy in and let it slide out repeatedly. This produces some nice gentle stimulation against the prostate, which in turn sends tingles up and down your spine and around your genital area, resulting in an intense release.

They can also be used for Kegels, or to just become aware of your prostate and inner workings. I find they can help tone your PC muscles for better erection control and engorge erections more. What's not to like about that?

I recently wrote my first Sexis article about this subject, if you care to read more about it. HERE

Though designed for men, some women seem to find them pleasurable for use as well (ie Travelnurse, among others)

Material / Texture

The helix is made of white abs plastic. It has a smooth feeling and slightly more heft than one would guess from pictures. It is a solid, dense and relatively heavy plastic. It comes in at an 8 on the EF safety scale. It is very firm, which is good for prostate stimulation, but if it does not properly fit your anatomy, you might experience some discomfort after a while (as I did with the Aneros SGX).

The body feels good and solid, but the handle is a bit on the flimsy side by comparison. You would not want to sit on it for fear of breaking it, but it otherwise seems firmly attached enough for normal use to be safe.

There is no discernible odor. Overall, I am quite pleased with the material. It seems to be a very smooth high quality plastic with no seams.

Design / Shape / Size

The helix is a neat looking design, that was created after feedback from the users of Aneros' early models, which had hit or miss results, so this was intended to offer more immediate and greater stimulation to the prostate. I though this toy looked like an ideal shape the first time I saw it and I have wanted to give it a try for a long time, so my hopes were really high.

The helix is 4 1/2" long, with 4" of that being insertable. It is 3" in circumference, so slightly less than 1" in diameter. It weighs .2 lbs. This size is not intimidating and should work fine for anyone from beginner to advanced. The neck where the anus rests is 1/2".

The toy is not discreet. I think it's fairly obvious where you stick it! That said, I wouldn't hesitate to throw it in my checked luggage. After all, many of these devices are derivatives of medical devices to exercise and stimulate the prostate in the first place. It has an ergonomic handle for insertion/removal. The design is intended to be a hands-free experience, but not all men will experience the same levels or type of pleasure. Prostate stimulation, pleasure and reaction are different from guy to guy and toy to toy.

Performance

The helix slides in with little or no resistance using a generous amount of water based or silicone lube. I recommend silicone, because it lasts longer, if you intend to wear this for extended periods. I've had similar toys stick to my insides after water-based lube dried up and it's not fun removing them. The Helix slides right in place and stays in. It will stimulate your prostate when you hit a strong arousal point, but otherwise, you will not really notice it is there, unless you contract your PC muscles. Generous amounts of lube are recommended and some guys douche first. I can see where this might help, but have not done it personally.

The device stays put when inserted as it should and will move to stimulate your prostate with muscle contractions/relaxations. A generous amount of a good solid water based lube will aid the process. Maximus is a good lube suggestion for this toy, as is JO premium silicone.

I'd say this toy is going to take some practice to master it. I notice variations in pleasure and stimulation from use to use. I think it has promise, but I have not quite gotten the results I hoped for just yet. I've seen videos of other men having amazing orgasmic sesions with the helix and other Aneros models. I'm not sure I will ever reach those heights though.

Care and Maintenance

Care is easy for the Aneros. You can wash it with hot soapy water or use anti bacterial toy cleaner/wipes after use. It should not be shared, as it cannot be completely sterilized like silicone can. Aneros does offer the Helix Syn model, which is almost identical, but covered in silicone. I was tempted to get that one, but its more expensive and that means you couldn't use silicone lube, which I wanted to have the option for.

I do find silicone lube lasts longer and adheres better to the plastic than water-based lubes. I even did a session last night where I tried a few different toys using water-based (two were silicone toys) and then tried the helix with silicone lube. I did noticed more movement and pleasure being pre-lubed and combining both lubes. Something to consider. I already read suggestions on the aneros forums to use coconut oil, which is all natural and long lasting.

Packaging

The packaging immediately struck me as very luxurious when I opened my EF box. Very impressive, thick slick packaging. The helix comes in a Red/white/Black box that has a folding cover with the toy safely secured within a cutout. It is recyclable, but not an ideal reusable storage solution. It is not discreet. I almost think the packaging was more impressive than the toy in some ways.

Personal comments

I've tried some other models of these toys with mixed results, but the Helix kept calling my name. The design/shape just seemed nearly ideal. I tried the Aneros SGX, which did little for me. Turns out it was designed in Asia for men 5' 6" or less in height. At almost 6' 2" that puts me way out of it's intended range. The helix seemed like a natural choice, with the Progasm, seeming a bit too large.

The Janus anti shock was a nice looking design, but was much smaller than expected and the stimulation point too small for my taste. The Lux LX-2 was too large to insert, the lelo Bob pleasure object, was almost there, but maybe a hair too small to be ideal, but stll useful and ideal for extended wear. The Metal Worx Luv Plug is a nice change of pace, but doesn't always stay put. The Njoy pure plug medium, while nice, doesn't do much for the prostate. The Evolved Get a Grip is the benchmark. It never fails to satisfy me immensely. I keep hoping to find something that performs similar or better in a smaller package, but maybe I am just fooling myself.

I am a skeptic by nature and I am beginning to believe the mythical super O is just that. A myth. Or perhaps I was never meant to have one or am not patient enough. I'd be content if it gave me a full body ecstatic orgasm during sex though.

Experience

The Helix inserts without much problem using a liberal amount of lube and goes right to the prostate area. It is a good size for most users and is not intimidating at all. If I could change anything it would be the perineum arm. Besides the common complaint about it digging and being uncomfortable, it doesn't really hit the right spot on my perineum. It seems like it should be longer (as much as maybe 1" longer).

I am not new to these type toys. They are my preferred style of anal toy. The first time I put it in and relaxed in bed for about 10 min before my GF joined me. I could immediately feel some light and broad pressure on my prostate and some sense of fullness.

When having sex, I could feel the helix move with my thrusting a little, but in a vague sort of way. It enhanced my orgasm, but wasn't as intense as I had hoped for. My benchmark prostate toy is the Evolved Get a Grip and I've yet to find anything that quite matches the pleasure it provides.

I do think it has potential and I will continue to try for the elusive super o. It definitely feels better than my knock off SGX version, which was uncomfortable and not very stimulating.

Sadly, I don't think the Helix is going to live up to my expectations or Aneros' promise of pleasure. When I orgasm, I am just not feeling the extra benefits associated with prostate pleasure I have gotten from other products. I get some initial pleasure and sensation upon insertion, but after a while it kinda dissipates and the Helix is not moving in/out like I expected and like the Get A grip does. Maybe with time and practice it will improve. Perhaps I am just impatient or expecting too much.
Follow-up commentary
I like the Helix more now, than when I first got it. The pleasure seems to improve with each use and really intensifies orgasm. I get a lot of movement on my prostate right before and during orgasm. I guess some practice will get more movement on the build-up. This is definitely a keeper and I'd recommend it to users of all experience levels.

Absolutely excellent review and pics. And I thought I was the only one who had trouble with the Aneros plastic toys 'sticking inside' once the water-based lube had dried out!
