I Don't Love It

When compared to plugs and beads, the L'Amour probe just doesn't have what it takes to be a top competitor. While I praise Cal Exotics for choosing silicone for an anal toy, I also have to scold the company for not trying harder to make this probe a little more interesting. What makes it stand out? Nothing.

Use

Best Use: Booty calls.
The only use that I was interested in from the L'Amour probe was as an anal probe. Having previously been a fan and owner of anal beads and multiple plugs, a probe like this seemed like a solid piece to add to my collection...especially since I have become a bit of a silicone addict (even moreso for anal toys). I also enjoy the idea of using a probe for double penetration, especially for individuals who are new to the concept. That being said, the material can be sterilized, and therefore this probe is not stuck to butt duty alone. While there is an option to use this probe vaginally, there isn't enough substance to this probe to warrant the interest. As a last word to the wise, though there is a "base" of sorts to this toy, I do not feel 100% sure that it isn't small enough and/or flexible enough to edge on up. For this reason, having a good grip on the bottom is necessary in certain situations that might push the probe farther up.

Material / Texture

This probe is made of "premium silicone." There is no bait and switch such as calling it a silicone toy then including a plastic base, which I'm appreciative of. I also think that silicone is the right choice for an anal toy since it can be sterilized (I also enjoy glass for this reason). You can soak this probe in warm water (it'll absorb the warmth) in order to take it more easily if you are a beginner. There is no real texture to the probe. Instead, there are five bulbs or bulges of sorts that make up the probe. The silicone is smooth. The probe is not completely rigid, but it is rigid enough to be inserted easily.

The L'Amour probe does come in both pink and purple. The purple and pink are pastel-looking online, but when I received mine, it was a darker pink than expected. I've read that the purple is a lavender color. I will say that I have a deep disappointment when unisex toys are only offered in pink or purple as I feel that an anal probe might appeal to more men if the colors weren't so feminine.

Design / Shape / Size

When I look at the L'Amour probe, it's not necessarily an intimidating probe. There are five bulges/beads/balls that go up in size from tip to base. The smallest is about the size of the tip of my thumb or 1/2" across while the largest is 1 1/4". The probe is lightweight, and while I find the girth of the beads to be unsatisfactory in many ways, the length does provide a slight challenge at times. The end is similarly shaped to a hook. However, I don't believe it's wide enough or rigid enough to be completely safe for all anal situations. I think the best user for this toy would be a mildly experienced anal user, but even a beginner will find it useful (he/she might just not want to take the entire length). As someone who isn't super experienced yet that owns multiple anal toys, this probe was a complete bore for me.

Performance

I'm not disappointed with the ability of the L'Amour probe to challenge my length of insertion boundaries. However, I'm just not able to say that I enjoy this probe. It could be the lack of curve, the relatively small beads, the kind of useless base. Basically, there are a lot of little things that could be improved here, which when combined really detract from this toy. Also, with a probe being utilized for only one thing (anal), it's got to offer something interesting or original to not burn me out super fast. If I were to compare it to my original set of anal beads or to any of my handful of plugs, I would find that this is the toy I would be least likely to buy again.

Care and Maintenance

Silicone can be sterilized by boiling for 3 minutes. For this reason, I always like when silicone is paired up with an anal toy choice. Silicone can also be washed with antibacterial soap and water, cleaned with any type of toy cleaner (foam, wipes, or sprays), run through the top rack of the dishwasher, or cleaned with a 10% bleach solution. Having no mechanical parts and no particularly small areas or ridges, this probe can be thoroughly cleaned quite easily. While many of my silicone toys gather lint and hair quite effectively, I haven't seen it so much with this probe. Silicone cannot be stored next to other pure silicone toys, and only water-based lube is recommended. With the small girth of the majority of this probe, I did not need to use more than a dime-size amount of lubricant. This probe, along with the box, are manageable in size and to store.

Packaging

The L'Amour probe from Cal Exotics comes in a pink and white plastic package. The top seems to have an issue with staying closed even upon arrival. The probe sits within a tray with an indent the size and shape of the probe inside of the plastic box. Since the packaging is clear, this is not discreet in any way. There is also pink wording that identifies this item as a "premium silicone beaded probe." No instructions are included, but dimensions are given on the back. There are a handful of gimmicky phrases on the back, but nothing stands out for me. At least they didn't stick a half naked pornstar from the 80s on the box. Still, the packaging is nothing gift-worthy.

Follow-up commentary
I was originally unimpressed with the silicone beaded probe. Since then, I've reviewed even more anal items, and the probe has sunk even farther in the ranks. I think the two things that I really wish to change include A) the girth and B) the flexibility.
I don't necessarily like a probe with any flexibility to it, and I definitely want to feel each ball of the probe. The first couple of balls on this probe are far too small. Then again, a beginner may disagree with me. The point is that this is not going to be of interest to advanced players.
