The quality of the material, design, and performance of the toy is outstanding. Severin medium provides a wonderful combination of qualities that is difficult to find together in one butt plug.

Pros
Graduated bulges, feeling of fullness, excellent prostate stimulation, comfortable, great retention
Cons
The largest diameter of 1.85" may be too intense for some players, bit of a lint magnet
Severin medium is best suited for intermediate anal players and is designed to be used as a butt plug. Thrusting is possible with this toy, but I don't recommend it. I would take it very slow and easy on the last bulb if you're in a thrusting mood.
Warm up will be required for most users, due to the diameter and steep slope of the largest bulb. I use Cody, also by Tantus, and have found Cody to be an excellent warm-up which lessens the burn for me and makes insertion of Severin medium a much more pleasurable experience than going at it cold.
The best place to grab this toy when inserting depends on how far you want it in you. If you only want to feel the first two bulges, then I would suggest holding the toy with fingers wrapped around the largest part of the last bulge. This will give greater control. If you're ready for the whole thing, then grasp by the base. In taking the last bulb, I have noticed that my body sometimes starts pulling the toy inside of me faster that I'd like. In this case, it is helpful for me to start pulling back a little to slow the insertion down.
This butt plug should be used with plenty of lubrication. This toy is compatible with water and oil based lubricants, but you should avoid any lubricant with silicone. Using silicone lubricant on a silicone toy could cause a chemical reaction to occur, turning your new best friend into an expensive paperweight.
The flared base keeps the plug outside of the body, and I've never felt the slightest bit of trepidation that the entire toy would be lost somewhere in the depths of my bowels. Severin medium also stays in place very well. I've never had a slip-out and I wear this bad boy quite a bit.
Severin medium is made of 100% premium silicone, and as such has no odor or taste. There are no visible or palpable seams on the toy, and overall I would describe Severin's texture as visually sleek. The plug is smooth and slick to the touch, but not soft or velvety. Stroking the outer skin of the plug almost feels like the same texture as glass. The silicone is firm, yet squishy. Squeezing the largest bulb reminds me of squeezing a stress ball. There is some flexibility to the toy, especially at the "rest stops" in between bulges. Due to the slickness of the silicone, lubricant tends to quickly run from the tip to the base, and can be messy if you're using a lube that's thin and watery. The material is great for beginners because it's body safe, has some give to it, and the slick nature makes insertion enjoyable.
I really enjoy the design of this toy. The plug is not realistic looking, but it is very visually appealing. Fashion definitely meets function in this instance.
Before I even inserted the toy the first time, I had a good idea of what the design would provide in the way of sensation: gentle initial insertion, rapidly expanding diameters, and a final "pop" before being granted a blissful feeling of fullness.
What really surprised me in the design was how comfortable Severin medium feels inside of me, even over the course of several hours. I would consider Severin medium to be in the intermediate range of diameters, so new anal commandos should seek their thrills from a smaller toy before wrangling with this one. Advanced players who have taken toys 2" in diameter and larger should still find enough thrills in the shape, size, and comfort to please them.
The etymology of the word “severin” has several branches. In the French language, “severin” can mean a great friend or pal. In Latin, the word means strict, stern, or severe. I have found in using this toy that both definitions fit very well.
Taking the last bulge can be a challenge, and you definitely won't forget that a plug is nestled into your ass. It provides a great sense of fullness, and the neck is thick enough to provide me with the "held open" feeling that I love.
Severin medium provides fantastic prostate stimulation as well. Within seconds of insertion I was fully erect, and walking around the house caused seminal fluid to leak out within minutes.
My girlfriend hasn't used it, but I suspect that it would provide g-spot stimulation as well. The neck is long enough to allow for some short thrusting in and out of me while walking about, which can also be elicited by tightening and relaxing the sphincter muscles.
The base works great to keep your anal indulgences out of public view. I have a tall and fairly thin build, but I've never been able to see evidence of the toy while wearing something as thin as pajama shorts.
The most amazing performance from Severin medium is comfort. For a plug this size, it feels soft, squishy, and yet quite noticeable without causing me any discomfort, even after wearing for several hours.
Cleaning premium silicone is pretty easy. Antibacterial hand soap can be used for routine disinfection, while boiling the toy in water, or spraying with a 1:10 solution of beach and water will sterilize it. According to Tantus, this toy can also be cleaned on the top rack of a dish washing machine, although I've never tried that myself. This plug will collect lint and hair very easily, but a quick rinse in plain water makes quick work of these problems. I kept the clam shell packaging for a while for storage, but I found myself using it so often that now I just throw it in my underwear drawer.
The toy comes in a clear clam shell package that's inserted into a larger clear plastic box. It's pretty simple packaging that is effective, but not very elegant. I don't think that many people would use the box as a means to display the toy, but it could be used for storage, as the plastic tabs on the box will continue to lock into place until they eventually break off. There are no user's instruction aside from a blurb on the safety of the toy and cleaning advice.
I clearly remember the first time I inserted this plug. I was a little scared at first, as this was the largest diameter that I had attempted at that time. I started with a couple of smaller anal toys, and then used Cody. It wasn't until I tried inserting Severin medium without Cody that I realized just how valuable Cody had become to me. The first bulge of Severin went in very easily. The second one went in with a little effort, and made me sweat a bit. The third bump was very intense and gave a "pop" and then my sphincter pulled the neck into me all the way to the base. I clenched down tight on the neck and within a few strokes of my cock I was enjoying an amazing orgasm that shook my whole body.
Follow-up commentaryI still like it2 months after original review
It's still my favorite plug. Still filling, still comfortable, still gives me smashing prostate pressure and orgasms. I've worn it more frequently lately while having sex with my girlfriend, and it's been amazing. My only regret is that I went through so many mediocre plugs before I found this one.
