The Joy massager is a well thought out and designed prostate massager. It functions well and is budget friendly. For someone wanting to try something new, Joy provides a way to do so without breaking the bank.
The Joy massager is designed to apply pressure to the prostate once it is inserted. The tip is firm enough to provide an external massage and aid in relaxing before insertion. This massager is an ideal choice for someone who is either interested in or has experience with prostate massage. The size is not intimidating yet is large enough to apply pressure to the prostate. The massager has a looped end (handle) that your finger goes through and the design although not flared at the base makes it relatively safe to fully insert anally and not worry about it sliding to far inside.
The manufacturer describes the material as 100% food grade silicone. There was no noticeable smell when removing the massager from the package. The massager is firm but flexible especially in the thinner areas of the massager. The massager has a smooth texture and allows for easy insertion when using water based lube. There is a small ridge half way down the shafts that is noticeable when pushing the massager in and out. The handle is flexible so heavy thrusting is somewhat of a challenge. The massager should be able to stimulate both beginners as well as more experienced individuals.
The design and shape are interesting in that the curved shafts makes insertion a bit awkward at first. It's not just a simple push it in kind of thing. You kind of have to tilt it a bit once the tip is inside. I got the hang of it pretty quick and now it is very simple to get inside. The package describes the handle end as ergonomic and when fully inserted it was easy to grab the handle without having to bend the wrist in an awkward position. The curved shape allows for greater pressure on the prostate once it is inserted. The firmness yet flexibility of the silicone provides pressure without discomfort when compared to other massagers that I have used that were made of plastic. Although everyone's anatomy is different this massager appears like it would work with many body types. The massager is small enough that it would it a good choice if one chose to travel with it.
The massager worked quite well when it came to prostate massage. The bulb end on the handle is designed to provide external prostate stimulation. This is true if you press on it but on its own there was not much stimulation from it due to the flexibility of the handle end.
Being made of silicone it is pretty straight forward when it comes to taking care of the massager. Water based lubes only and cleaning with toy cleaner, anti-bacterial soap, or boiling bleach water are all good ways to keep the massager clean. The massager is small enough that it can be stored pretty much anywhere. The packaging can be used to keep the dust off just be sure it is dried off.
The packaging of the massager was one of the things that if in a store may have made me choose a different product. The name of the product on the Eden site was Joy but when the package arrived the name on it said INVADER. For some reason reading that word placed a negative spin on the product. There is nothing wrong with prostate massage but reading that word for some reason makes it seem as if prostate massage is a bad thing (in my opinion anyway). The plastic package can be used for storage, there were no instructions.
One of the things I noticed during cleaning was how the soap collected in the handle similar to a bubble wand. I was actually able to blow bubbles from it! So in the event that someone should find it by accident you could just tell them it is a pistol grip bubble wand.
I found the massager to be an enjoyable experience overall. I was able to use the massager hands free by relaxing and contracting the muscles in that area. I could also use it as a moderate thrusting toy as well. The longest extended period I had it in was about 30 minutes and never felt like it would slide out and was able to sit down comfortably with it in.
