When I was a kid, I used to love playing Mad Libs games. I’ve noticed that once people get older, whenever they play Mad Libs, they usually make up some pretty filthy stories. Since I like the idea of making up a filthy, hilarious story with my friends, I decided to try out one of the “Adult” Mad Libs books.
Adult Mad Libs is constructed much like a tear-top notebook would be. There is a paperboard front and back cover with a thick cardboard insert right in front of the back cover. This insert allows the book to be easily written on when there isn’t a flat writing surface nearby. It also keeps it from bending in half. The cover has a red heart design bordering it. The title of this Mad Lib book is “He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not.” There’s a picture of a pinup girl in a yellow dress with a rose. The back cover shows an example of a filled out mad lib.
Opening the book, the instructions are a couple of pages in. Basically, you have one person as the reader and one or more people can be writers. The reader selects a story for the writers to fill in. They will then call out what type of word they need without revealing anything in the story. For example, they call out adjective. One of the writers then has to give an adjective to fill the blank in the story. Once the writers give words for all of the blanks, the reader goes through and reads the story. In case you forget what some word types are, the page after the instructions lists what each one is, as well as an example of each word. “Adjectives describe something or somebody. Lumpy, soft, ugly, messy, and short are all adjectives.”
This book contains 21 pages of short Mad Lib stories. There can be between 10 and 20 blanks for each story that need to be filled in. The back of the previous page has the list of what words you need, which has space to fill them in as well. You can also fill the words right into the story in the blanks. I personally either use the separate fill in bank or a separate sheet of paper so I can reuse the stories as many times as I want to.
The stories in this book are all love-themed. Mostly, they relate to going on dates or Valentine’s Day. While some stories simply use the phrase “sweetheart,” most stories are based on heterosexual couples. Some of them seem to be meant more for women to fill out, as well. However, these can be easily altered or used to create your own Mad Lib stories.
When a couple of friends came over, one friend and I decided to do a couple of Mad Libs. We didn’t really make dirty stories, though we did come up with some weird lines. For example, one of her stories involves a sweetheart bringing in a fresh-cut vase of kittens. One of the stories I wrote tells you how to figure out if he’s the guy for you. If he isn’t, you aren’t supposed to “put all of your eggs in one baby doll. It would be best to cut your monkeys and keep looking.”
There aren't any dirty words or dirty intentions in this book, so it should be safe to keep around kids or family members. Of course, that may change once the book starts getting filled in.
I found this book pretty enjoyable. It allows you to take a story and make it funny, serious, whatever you want as many times as you want. The price on EdenFantasys, as well as the back of the book, of $3.99 is pretty reasonable. I’ve seen some short Mad Libs books sell for around $6 at bookstores. It makes a great conversation starter or just something fun to do with a group of friends.

I still like this book. It's a fun way to pass the time with friends or family members. The same story can be used over and over again with different nouns, verbs, and adjectives to create something completely different.
