Not a Parody, but a Sexy Remake
This is a sexy remake of the popular 1992 erotic thriller, but with some hot sex added. It’s not a true parody, as no humor is added, and viewers who have not seen the original film may have some trouble following the plot. But they will enjoy the sex scenes, which are all fairly good.

The term “parody” implies imitation with comedic exaggeration, but there’s nothing particularly humorous here. So the title of this movie, Official Basic Instinct Parody, is wrong on two counts. Not only is it not “official” in any way, but it’s a straight-up remake of the suspense thriller, not a parody of it. But referring to movies as parody is the porn industry’s standard way to avoid legal problems, so it’s not surprising to see it done here. But anyone considering this title should be aware that it’s a thriller, not a comedy.
As a remake, it does a pretty good job, but unfortunately not enough attention is paid to the exposition of the plot, especially in the second half of the film. While one who hasn’t seen the original film may be able to follow along during the first half, in the second half events occur with little or no explanation, leaving the hapless viewer puzzled as to what’s going on. For anyone familiar with the plot, the film will feel like a sexier version of the original. Those who haven’t seen the original should probably try to view it before watching this version, or else just give up on following the plot and just enjoy the sex scenes.
The sex scenes are pretty good, with believable performances and some good chemistry between some of the performers. There’s some good variety in the sex acts, and while there’s nothing too edgy here, a few scenes feature characters putting their hands on each other’s necks, in some very mild faux choking.
The movie opens with the main character, Catherine Trammel (played by Breanne Benson) having sex with a man, but it’s not explicit and is brief, so I won’t count it as a sex scene. The actual scenes (almost all of which were a bit on the long side) are as follows:
Scene 1: Breanne Benson and Lexi Belle
The first proper sex scene is an ok, but not great lesbian scene between Catherine Trammel and her girlfriend. Lexi Belle seems a bit unenthusiastic at times, but Breanne Benson is pretty exciting to watch, with some very nice fingering action when she goes down on Lexi.
Scene 2: Lyla Storm and Michael Vegas
The main police character has some rather enthusiastic sex with his therapist/girlfriend. (The exact nature of the relationship is never made clear.) There’s a nice cunnilingus segment, as well as some very energetic fucking. Overall, an enjoyable scene.
Scene 3: Brandy Aniston and Ryan McLane
A religious police detective is somewhat reluctantly seduced by a prostitute who is supposedly going to be strip searched. The scene doesn’t make a lot of sense plot-wise, but provides an excuse to see some different people have sex. Too bad they weren’t more interesting.
Scene 4: Francesca Le and Will Powers
Another random policeman has sex with his superior. The oral sex is well done, but the fucking is uneventful and becomes a bit boring as it drags on.
Scene 5: Breanne Benson and Michael Vegas
Our two main characters get to fuck at last. It’s a somewhat quiet scene, as he is fairly passive throughout. She gives him a very nice blowjob. The fucking starts out gentle (but fun to watch) before ramping up to a faster and deeper pounding. There are some great closeups in this scene, providing a beautiful view of their genitals during penetration. She’s nicely tanned and looks stunning; she looks so much more alive than he does. This feeling is appropriate, as at the conclusion of the scene she reaches down for … well, I don’t want to spoil the ending, do I?
Experience
I enjoyed the film, and think it will be particularly good for anyone who is a fan of the original Basic Instinct. I loved the packaging, with the cover art based on the original film’s poster. Gary Orona is a good director, but somewhat inconsistent and the sex scenes in this movie lacked some of the passion found in his Friday the 13th parody. His best work is when he has more colorful, authentic environments to frame his stories, and the generic sets here just don’t show off his abilities. But this movie’s biggest downfall was its dialog, as it failed to retell the story in an effective manner. It still manages to string together some good sex scenes, but if the writing had been stronger it would have made for a much better movie overall.
This movie also lacked any real extras, as the DVD only contains the feature film (with scene selection menu), a gallery of stills, an option to view the popshots, and a small assortment of trailers for other movies. Gary Orona usually includes good behind-the-scenes materials (and sometimes even a commentary track) with his films, so I’m not sure why this release is so lacking.
