First of all, hi! I'm rather new here, so I hope I'm going about this the right way.
You know, the other day I was wondering about the general taboos and preconceptions there currently are in most societies about sex toys and people who use them, and how people manage to overcome them to become sex toy owners.
So here is my question, how did it go for you the first time? What made you decide to start using and owning sex toys? Was it a gift, did you go to a sex shop, did you order it online, was it borrowed from a partner? Which toy was it, and what made you decide to get it? When you got it, did it meet your expectations, or were you disappointed? Do you still have it and use it?
I remember the first time I got a sex toy. I had been curious since a teenager, but at the time all I did was surf the web to check what kind of stuff was available and basically giggle like the fifteen-year-old I was.
It wasn't until I was twenty-two, single and horny that I decided to get one of my own. I remember searching in the yellow pages to see if there were any sex shops in my city and writing down the addresses but never being able to quite work up the courage to go. What if somebody I knew saw me getting in or out of there? What if the store clerk was a leering old man? What if I can't work up the courage to buy exactly what I want with somebody there looking at me and branding me a perv?
In the end, I gave up on going to a sex shop and decided to check what I could get online. A whole lot of stuff, it turned out.
There was so much to choose from that I got lost, and to tell you the truth, hornier than ever. Vibrators, dildos, dilators, butt plugs, in so many shapes and sizes and colours... (back then I wasn't aware there were safer materials than others, but that is a story for another time). I remember being so excited that I had to stop a couple of times to go and have a private wanking session before I could continue.
In the end, I decided for a jelly bunny vibrator, as it seemed to be inocuous enough for a first-time sex toy owner but popular enough that it would guarantee great times to come (pun absolutely intended).
The week it took for my vibrating jelly bunny to arrive were torture. I got my expectations ridiculously high and was walking around in a near-constant state of arousal (and never before had I been so glad of being a woman and not having a very obvious visual indication of this state).
I got my expectations so high, in fact, that it was a huge disappointment when my toy finally arrived. You see, when putting that bunny to use I discovered that, sadly, vibrations do nothing for me. Absolutely nothing. In fact, they kind of numb me. I had just wasted my hard-earned money in a toy that was essentially useless.
Still, I didn't give up. I got other toys and eventually found what worked best for me, to use alone and with a partner. I've learned to be realistic in what to expect from a toy and not to get my hopes too high... but I'll never forget that first time, the great expectations and the huge disappointment.
Oh, and btw, four years later I still have that bunny. I don't use it (never did after the first time), but I kept it as a reminder of sorts. A souvenir, if you will, of the loss of my sex toy virginity. XD
