MAYBE glass or silicone that can be completely sterilized. And I'd do it like 3 times before it came near me. But I just don't know...

I wouldn't. It may be sterilized, but it would still gross me out. Unless from a partner, of course.

If its completely sterile, yes, from someone that I know VERY well.

Yeah, but only if it belonged to a partner or someone SUUUUPER close to me. A stranger or someone not as close would still ick me out, even if it was sterilized!

Viruses can get into pores, yes, but if you boiled the toy, the pores and anything inside them would be sufficiently heated to be destroyed.

Yeah, the "pores" on silicone aren't the issue. If heat can take care of it, it'll "die" whether it's on the surface or in the pores.

The real risk is viruses like Hepatitis C, which can withstand both heat and bleach. But here's the thing: Our salons don't sterilize for Hep C (think clippers and razors), and the restaurants we eat at don't sterilize for Hep C (think utensils you put in your mouth). Better yet, most folks have Hep C for YEARS before they have any symptoms, so you're technically "at risk" when you have sex with anyone ever, kiss anyone, share drinks, etc.

Really tough viruses are pretty much always a "risk," so using someone else's sterilizable toy isn't more risky than... existing, really. (But using a toy that you can't soak in beach solution or boil is more risky, for obvious reasons.)

That said, I'm just being pedantic. I totally understand the ick factor many folks mentioned! Getting a discount on a used toy obviously isn't worth it if you're not comfortable with the idea or perceived risks.

I wouldn't be comfortable using anything that is second-hand. Some things just need to personal. Like tooth brushes and sex toys.

I don't think I would. Maybe a paddle or a flogger, but not something that goes inside the body.

I bought a silicone toy that was preused and just boiled it for a good length of time. I definitely wouldn't buy something that I couldn't clean 100% of it by myself.

I have no problem sharing with my wife of more than 25 years. Even then, only the safest materials, silicone, glass, etc. We go to great lengths to sterilze - even something as 'curable' as a bacterial infection is no fun. Nobody else though. It simply isn't worth the risk. Think about it. Even luxury toys barely cost more than a tank of gas. Certainly less than a doctor visit. Is it worth risking your life and possibly a lover's? Granted, I came of age during the time when HIV was a guaranteed death sentence. Though things have changed, there is still no cure, and even the new drugs don't work for everyone. Just about all the STDs out there are going to change your life forever, along with anyone you pass them along to. Think also about all the bleach commercials. There are always 3 or 4 germs left after they clean something. Why? Because even Chlorox knows bleach doesn't kill 100% of the bugs.

When I do a risk assessment, the small financial gain to be had is nowhere close to justifying the possible consequences. I love a bargain as much as anyone else; I simply believe sex toys aren't the place to penny pinch.

I don't have much of a logical reason for saying no to any used sterilized toy, I wish I did, because really there's nothing wrong with them if they're totally clean. Something still squicks me out a bit though. Me and my partner share, that I don't mind at all.

The idea as a whole grosses me out a little, but I'm not sure why if it can be completely cleaned.
