Toy one-night stands

Contributor: virginiaplain virginiaplain
I have experienced this more than once and I'm wondering if any of you have...

On occasion, I will have a stupendous, earth-shattering, great-helluva time with a toy - then, never again. There are a precious few that play again and again, while the others are benched.

It's made me more picky than ever before. I now contemplate a new purchase forever before I finally jump in!

Not usually. If I enjoy a toy once, I usually continue to enjoy that toy.

Sometimes I have that. I usually use it more than once before it happens though. But for me sometimes after using it for a few weeks I end up not using it much again after that even if it was awesome while I used it.

New sensations sometimes do that for me, too, but usually I find that if I stick with it I can get back some of the "magic", sometimes it's as simple as not falling into a "rut" of using all the toys the same way.

My wife's reactions to her toys vary on a session-by-session basis - it's kind of a joke for us. After a particularly explosive orgasm I'll remind her that the last time we tried that toy she didn't like it - she just laughs and reminds me it's all about variety and state of mind. I can control the variety by making sure to pull out new toys - but her state of mind - well that's completely unpredicatable.

It's the reason we have so many toys and continue to try more!

If I enjoy a toy the first time, subsequent use is usually better for me. Some toys there is a learning curve but I try to be overall, open to the learning experience.

It's a rare occurrance for me. I do get a bit gaga over new stuff and tend to not review things for awhile so that I know I'm not reviewing in that "ooh, look, new and shiny!" state of mind cuz within a couple weeks I'm usually more level headed... but most times, if I like a toy, I continue to like it unless and until I simply get bored. Even then, if I pull it out a few months later, I'll enjoy it again. Usually, if I dislike something, I know it from the get go cuz it just didn't work for me.

That's how it is for me too. If I bring it back out I'll still love using it. I just find I don't always grab for some stuff even if I love it.

It has happenned that a toy worked for me at the beginning not amzingly so but it performed well) but then the more I used it the more it got difficult to recreate the same effect.

Now that's an excellent point - I do also tend to wait to review one after quite a few uses.

I think I had this happen once or twice, but I try to bring it out another time and give it another go to see if I change how I feel about it....

Not really-- usually, I either like a toy or I don't. The exception would be the toy that "grows" on me after a while... but I don't think I've ever started out really loving a toy and then ended up disliking it later on. There's a certain novelty about the first time with a new toy, sure, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be a fabulous experience.

I have had experience with a lesser version of this. Toys that are fantastic once and then not quite as fantastic later. Definitely not one-night-stands, though.

Several toys have given me "sit down and recover for five minutes before you even think about doing anything" orgasms during solo play exactly once, and then later times I've used them solo it's been max of 2 minutes recovery. I can hear you from here - boo hoo, right?

Yeah, kind of. I think it's because the sensation is new, and once I've used it on myself I know what to expect. Having a wife who knows my hot points use them when she has plenty of time helps to bring back the ubergasms.

Thankfully I have not had your luck. My toys are very loyal.

I never buy a toy just to use it once. I work hard for my money and always put it only into that one toy I know I will use again and again.

I don't think very many people intend on it, it just happens,

I thought I had that problem once -- a toy was fantastic the first two times I used it, and then really meh a few times, so it got put away. Turns out, it was an issue of lube -- it worked much better with the sample packets that came along with it than it did with other things. I bought more of that lube, and the relationship is back on track.

It depends. I have some that I absolutely love and can't get enough of. Then I have some that are kind of like, "Meh." Then, we have the labile ones that give great nights some times and bad nights other times. I think a lot of it for me depends on my mood and expectations for that romp session.

I've had that happen to me, but only because it was new and blah blah blah... it's like the honeymoon effect with a toy. Now the honeymoon's over, I'm all about the next big thing :]
