Rechargeable toy storage idea

Contributor: newfoundlust newfoundlust
Like a lot of you, we have toys that either plug directly into the wall (Hitachi) or that re-charge on the wall. Having toys that are not recharged when you want to use them is not attractive, and neither is having to go get the toy out and plug it in when you want to use them. Finally, we cannot have toys lying around plugged into various places in the bedroom.
While my wife was out running some errands the other day I got a power strip and drilled a hole in the back of my wife's bedside table into her lower drawer, as it is not an antique or otherwise something where the value is destroyed. I then ran the power strip through the drawer hole and out the back of the bedside table. Once the power strip was arranged, I put all of her rechargeable/plug in toys into the drawer, arranged the cords neatly and covered them with a piece of cloth, and then placed the toys on top of the cloth neatly. All of our plugin and rechargeable toys can now stay plugged in all the time, ready to play just by opening the drawer. Mrs. Lust was a very happy lady when she got home.

That's a brilliant idea! Maybe I'll try to get Alan to do something like that with our headboard.

Michele, Mrs. Lust loves having everything put away but everything ready to go. Both preparation and discretion in one simple step.

I think that's a fantastic idea! I don't keep mine plugged in, so if I know which one we'll use, I have to plan ahead and get it charged. This sounds like a much better idea - charge them where you store them. Thanks!

Also makes it easy to un-plug them via 1 plug when there is bad weather coming to save your investments.

We're pretty much that way too, but we hadn't come up with anything for our plug-in toys yet. Thanks for the tip

Interesting idea. I would most likey mount the power strip to the outside somehow and drill the whole to allow the cords into the drawer. This would allow easier access to shut off the power strip to keep chargers from sucking phantom power. Either that or invest in a "smart" power strip that cuts off power to ports not actively charging.
