Do you let your pets (dog/cat/other) sleep in bed with you?

When I was single, my cat would sleep in my bed too! Even sleeping above my head on my pillow... I miss that now. He doesnt like to sleep in the bed w/my bf and the dog. = ( Sometimes, I sneak off to the guest room and my cat will come sleep w/me, like old times. = )

Aw, my kitty sometimes sleeps above my head on my pillow, too! When she sleeps like this, she'll sometimes even have a paw across my head, "holding" me.

I like the idea of it, but I've found that in actual practice it's hard for anyone to get good sleep that way. So no, no dog or cat in the bed here.

They're allowed to sleep with me on the weekends. During the week, I need to get good sleep, and they start walking on me about an hour and a half before their breakfast time, and I can't stand that. So I lock them out! But on the weekend, it's easier to deal with, and I love sleeping late and waking up surrounded by kittehs!

NEVER! It isn't good for our sex life. It isn't good for my allergies. And it really screws up the Pack Hierarchy that is so important with any dog. Especially when you have large and bold animals like Malamutes.

We live in a no pets allowed apartment now, but back when we did have a kitty (she passed away) she always slept with us. And we kept my son's dog for a few months, and she always slept with us, and the cat.

I also wanted to say animals and water beds do not go very well together. But, for us, the Pack Hierarchy is very important. I think this type of dog raising is a good way to have well behaved dogs. Everyone comments on how good our dogs are when they are told to do something and what sweet animals they are. Letting them know, in a nice but firm manner, that they are NOT the pack Alpha is necessary for family/pack dynamics. All dogs see their families as their packs. It only makes sense to not let them take the pack and run with it. I've seen too many large, powerful dogs put down, because they got the whole "I'm the Alpha." thing into their heads and became dangerous. I would never want a dog who is out of control, barking all the time, not listening, being afraid to let them around children/people/ other dogs etc.

It works for us.

I'm not a pet person, but back when I was I never let them sleep with me in bed. And I don't think I could deal with a partner who did. Just no.

My kitty sleeps with me pretty much every night. I love it, since her presence is very comforting after watching scary videos all night like the horror-masochist that I am. Plus, the sound of her purring is very soothing. I kind of wish she'd snuggle up to me, but she prefers to be down at the foot of the bed.

I agree. I most of the time abide by the rules of Ceasar Millan. (Love his show!!!) But I do let my dog sleep with me, which is just as much for me and her. But she still spends half her night in her own bed (a crate, actually) and whenever I leave for the day she goes back in it. I think if her personality weren't so submissive already (and she's extremely well behaved), I would consider not having her up there at all.

My pet is a human, so yes, of course! I do not have pets of any other type.

No, ever since we had a dog who snagged a set of expensive leather cuffs off of our bedside table and ATE them, there are no dogs allowed in the lair at all, let alone in the bed.

We have no choice...out cat OWNS our bed. She is kind enough to let us sleep on it with her.

I think there's something wrong with the question - it should have asked, "Do your cats allow you to sleep in bed with them." I usually have to ask permission before calling it a night. Damn cats!

My dog and cat sleep on the bed, down the bottom end, well to start with anyway

I wouldn't say "the more the merrier", as we'd rather she NOT sleep in our bed. But when she makes the face, it's hard to say "no".

I love Ceasar! My Man and I have been training our dogs this way for years. When we first saw his show, we both just sat there nodding and smiling. He does things the way we do and I think he has a good idea about how to raise dogs. I'm not as crazy about that British woman, Victoria (whatever her name is) who thinks the "whole pack lot is a lot of rubbish." Dogs think like dogs, not like people.

What kind of dog do you have, Jen? We have a Malamute (neutered male) (who is a big as a house) and a black Lab.(spayed female.)

I totally agreed on your Pack theory. Why do dogs sleep on their humans beds? Because the humans invited/did not say no to them in the first place. I have never invite my Poodle to jump on beds from day 1 after we have him, so he knows that the beds are off-limit to him. He's never attempted to sneak onto any beds, even when we're out of the house.

P'Gell, I love Alaskan Malamutes and American Eskimos, they have such beautiful fur! There's quite a few around my neighborhood.

I have a cat, she goes in an out of the garden. We don't like when she is in the house. She can only come in to eat or sleep, but most of the time she needs to stay outside. It's a suburban area so it's best for her as well. She has hair that she leaves behind that's why we won't let her in the rooms. I could never imagine sleeping with an animal. They go out (even if they live inside, they have to go out sometime, and they are not that clean) and they can bring in parasites and all kinds of nasty stuff. If I had to choose like my life depended on it if I'd sleep with a cat or dog in a bed, I'd choose a dog. They are somewhat better in bonding to humans and I've seen it many times that a dog sleeps with the owner in the same bed and that's okay. Just not for me.

I love sleeping with pets in the bed. My cat likes to go under the covers and snuggle with me. When my ex and I would visit his mom we'd sneak her puppy out of its crate at night so she could sleep with us.

Where else would they sleep? . When we cuddle, the dog just gets under covers and snoozes. We just have to make sure she does not tear up anything with our scent on it, afterwords!!! Most nights, however, she is a great bed warmer!!! Our personal little fuzzy radiator, who is never too tired to give you a "good night" mooch.

Yeeeaaah, I'm not a fan of hers either. I officially decided I didn't like her the moment she told an owner to get on the floor and then put a blanket over her and said, "That's how the dog feels." Uhhhhh... crazy lady? No. Just no. But Ceasar? He has it going ON! And I loved Daddy.

My dog is a yorkshire terrier and a total sweetie pie. Nothing at all like the toy breed dogs that appear on his show. She loves absolutely everyone, has no possessive tendencies towards anything, and doesn't seem to have anxiety about anything either. Storms? Couldn't care less. New dogs wanting to smell her? She holds still and waits her turn to sniff. Strangers coming up to meet her? Sounds good to her. They better pet her though.

I miss my dog. I only get to see her on weekends for now until I move out of my uncle's and into my new home.
