How did you feel when you purchase your first sex toy?

Contributor: UrNaughtyaAngel UrNaughtyaAngel
I had been wanting a toy for the longest time but felt to embarrass to go to a store and get it. I was living with relatives so I could not order it online because who knows who would be around when it got delivered.

Finally one day at a novelty store they had a 21 and over section with beaded curtain that I had been to several times didn't have that many people at the store and the cashier was a girl. I had hear a lot about the pocket rocket from listening to Howard Stern on the radio and a few other peeps on tv.

I went in through the beaded curtain took a quick look at the adult toys saw the pockets rockets and quickly took one and walked out of the 21 and older area. The cashier was a rude, he yelled at me for putting my finger that was a tester eye shadow. I put my finger on it and then put it on my other hand to see how it looked. If I had not paid for the pocket rocket w/ my cc I would have returned it. Oh as I was about to tell her to forget I didn't want the item no more a guy who I think was the manager came near the register.

My other toys have been sent to me from contest I have one or nice company's being grateful that I rt them on twitter. But I have now gone to toy stores and taken a look. Granted it has been during the day.

I'm never really embarrassed when I purchase sex toys. Even with my first sex toy, I just walked in, got a little help, purchased it, and walked out. Today I can just walk into any sex store without even feeling a little ill at ease. After all, it's only sex and it's natural. I've been to sex stores with friends and a boyfriend. He however will get embarrassed and walk out. The only time I've been embarrassed is when a store clerk got so loud with a question I had, he caused everyone to turn and stare at me for a second.

If I recall correctly, I'm was kinda embarrassed yet also giddy. Now I counsel people on buying sex toys, and buying them for myself doesn't phase me at all. lol

I don't remember being anything but excited to get the toy home. It was a jelly phallic vibrator (seriously, how many of us made that mistake the first time around?) that I purchased from an adult toy store when I was 18 with a friend of mine, or my boyfriend at the time, I don't remember.

Ten years later, that jelly toy is gone but the people at the local stores all know me well - one of them even gives me the employee discount But I've lived on my own since I was 17 so bringing toys home was never an issue, and I'm just not particularly shy in general so I don't mind being seen buying them.

I was a little nervous, just because my friends were not as interested as me and I was with them, so I didnt want to look around and be too picky for too long just in case they wanted to leave.

LOL read my first review and I am just gushing about how exciting it was to buy it! I have since replaced it with better quality but it was an amazing experience.

I bought my first toy in 1980. I was in the Air Force, stationed in a state far away from my wife. It was at a very seedy place on the wrong side of town. I was very self conscious feeling shame, guilt and embarrassment. My hands were actually shaking. Luckily the cashier (a male) didn't say a word and just rang me out.

Now, I'm anxious. The place I visit is a romantic boutique. The staff are very friendly and customer orientated. They walk around and ask customers if we need help with anything.

The biggest thing I was worried about was someone going into my room asking what was in the bag. It was a gift for my wife and I wasn't worried or embarrassed at all.

I had looked around at various web sites and knew that I wanted silicone. Took part of a day and had a "field trip" to the big city because I knew that they had a "real" sex toy store, not a sleazy "adult bookstore and porno hut with a toy section".

Thought about mail order, but was concerned about it coming out, since the company, credit card company, banks, etc. would all "know" - and who knew about the post office? It could come in the pink, dildo-decorated package from the post a few months ago.

After a brief panic getting to the area with the shop (Is there anyone here who might know me? Where else could I go? Backup plan???) I got inside and it wasn't bad. Staff was helpful but not too involved. Paid with cash and then the "look nonchalant while you're really anxious while dashing back out onto the street" and "AAH! what if the police are investigating a crime in this area and they stop me and search my bag in front of everyone, and I have this butt plug!???!).

Things got better after that.

Thank you all for posting making my sleepless night an pleasant one. I am glad I was not the only one with worries and concerned. I have gone to a few stores now and the last one I went to the sales girl followed me everywhere and kept asking me if I wanted to feel it see, it better etc. I kept telling her I was just browsing.

But though I am feeling more comfortable going in stores and still feel a bit uneasy in them I can't really enjoy looking at the products as if I was in a regular store.
